hi everyone in this group dr ruman, laly, dorada, dr dream sorry if im leaving anyone out, im new to the forum and would like to join.
laly r u a mother too??
im planning to write ck in march, right now im doing kaplan notes and qbook, im also doing the nms review qbook, which in my opinion t is a prety good resource.....anyone studying pretests for ck???
havnt started usmle world as yet....
when i did uw for step 1 i was real slow it would take me hours to read the explainnations.....i could never manage more than 20 qs in a day....isnt that terrible!!!1
well i would be glad if i can join u gals .....

hello every one .milestogo welcome aboard nice to see you here yea I'm a mother of two girls a 4 and half ,and a two years old you could say 3 if i count my hubby too.
well we are doing kaplan notes with the dvds so far ,crush the boards as a review and you know what i have not startted UW yet but as you said it take a long time to go through the explanation so I figured may be start UW in Feb. for 3 month and use it as a study tool. along with my second reading I heard about the NMS as a good source but I didn't try it ,so far I think only now that I seriuosly got in the right track by putting more hours .
As a mother I made a lot of sacrifices one of them was the toughest that is as my step 1 exam was aproaching I send my older child back home I totally shut down my emotions and went a head with my exam AlhamdullAllah that was not in vain now she is comming back in Feb. and by that time I'm planning to accelarate my studying and try to finish as much as I can by then.
today i'm finishing pulmonary lectures I already did cardio thats is so far what I did .
dr ruman how are things going did you see the pm I sent you?
ok lets go back to the books...good luck every one

hey milestogo,i have also started with cardiology, n done with videos n started reading kap notes of that,but can u tell me, hw r u doing qbook with that, i mean its having all mixed que of IM , so r u doing all together or seperating out cardiology que, or u r done with IM??

hi all how are you and how is your study so far , I am reading Kaplan notes
Actually i started reading Im from kaplan notes while i read i am taking reminder like notes in what i think are high yeald ones.After i finish reading notes i do Kaplan Q book questions after each subject .This might help me to evaluate how i am doing and the type of questions i might be asked .It is good to have notes of your own while you read notes or do questions you will need it for fast revision and to see what you already covered and what you need more
and analize your weak and strong points.
Let us share opeanions and encourage each other

hi friends. how are studies going?
i'm trying hard to keep my mind off the results, an anxious wednesday just passed by.
i tried to start off with med, but couldnt get hold of it, so i now took up psych, its easy & i already know most of it. I'm feeling more comfortable now. I hope this works for me.
To all you seniors out here, have u all started with medicine?

well so far really nice encouraging atmospehere,em so happy
yup almost every 1 tries to start with im,but in midway i gave up as i cant absorb that much ,now shuffling im wid gynae and obs and surgey,so far its workin
its no hard and fat rule wat to start wid,but rule is wat u can do comfortabily and take pace in 1st read,but for sure in rev give priority to high yield ones,best luck

hmm hye ckiers
hows prep goin.yeah its true 1st read always time consuming as we are not that much oriented and 2nd read is also time taking as we are oreinted,heheheh ,lol i mean to say at 2nd read we add oue notes ,focus our weak points,so its worth it
o don worry abt how much u doinga day,but keep to do contionuosy and not giving up,makin a goal and try to reach it
well sfk, IM always imp,same is SURGERY AND PAEDS,u know if u concernec about ur profession and learning then read all subjects real good,its helpful for having real nice score and in our practical field too
u can read exam experience posts and people who took exam will better advice ,so happy studying

hey dr ruman thank u for counting me in
each subject is taking such along time,started with im ,but some topics arent very clear in kaplan regarding the management and treatment, and fotr those topics im referring another book.do we need to remmeber all the minute details regd the Rx or just the ouline sufficient.
i'm redaing about 5-6 hrs per day.how many hrs are u all putting in?
i need to stdy seriously ,but im unable are there are few of my relatives are at home.times just flying by so quickly.anyone please post some tips for improving concentration and time management.

yeah concentration is big prob specially 1st read or other family distractions,as em facing same
well so far wat i discovered regarding insufficiency of kaplan and difficulty to concentrate important details and wat to focus on ,i have started doing UW right in 1st read .
i mean i just thoroughly read a chapter then ,i high light imp striking point as described by seniours" most imp diagnostic test ,1st investiagtion,1st initial treatment and most curative treatment"
u can either write in a separate notebook or side columns of kaplan notes,
then highlight different treatment strategy depending on severity of patient condition,emergency or non emergency,mild ,moderate and severe,
after reading those highlights again,open the UW bank,select the same systme u reading and just do a block and read each questions very carefully and every expalantion including u did right or wrong
it will give 3 advantage,u will be able do do differentail diagnosis of same presenting complaints and how to differntiate according to buzz words and presentation,plus u b able to get explanation lacking in kaplan ,third u will know how to interepret a question,after doing a block widd expalnatin ,go read again that chapter or system ,now u will see a big diffrents,small inobvious lines in kaplan that we dont give importance will now be really informative,yup u r right,now u can read under the lines and hidden info,so all upto u eitheru can add notes on kaplan or make notes on note book
but if u r kind of person who dont get satisfied with uw score and give imp to score in 1st read,this thing may take u down as u may not score high this time,but next time u will see improvement,so upto u either do uw with 1st read or do kaplan read 2 times with some supplementation other notes u like and go to uw

hi everyone,hws ur study going on? i was out for 2 days to attend some social function , so couldnt be in touch with u guys,but one thing i noticed during these 2 days that i was missing u all  , wanted to be online n check the post as during my last few days i was so involved with u all n ofcourse with study because of that , so i was missing all that fun.......so i guess, its good,due to this thread ,i will be much closer to my study n i ll enjoy it,right????
anyways, done with cardio before leaving , so from today, going to start GIT...anyone doing GIT?????

Hi everyone,
how is studying ,time is running so fast I feel like I'm totally behind,dr ruman that is very informative thank you for sharing .
has anyone tries doing NMS along with the first reading I dont know? I read some posts about how good it is but I'm kinda confused and lost in between NMS or UW for now I mean with first reading because I feel that reading without doing questions is taking me no where so any input is appreciated.

hi lalyl yes if you read only notes it is a little difficult to consolidate your idea and
things you have to know to answer Ck type questions. I started reading Im from Kaplan notes when i finished reading i was not shure about things i know so i started doing questions after each subject from kaplan q book.I feel doing questions is good even after your first reading subject wise to be familiar with the questions and main ideas and high yeald topices from each subject.
regarding NMS i have the q book i just red some questions the explanations are wide and very informative and it has many high yeald questions.I didn't see others in the forum talking about it I have a plan to read it after i finish Kaplan then i will do UW.This is my personal idea friends in the forum might give you additional opeanion
