Hi, I just have a question about ECFMG certification...do we need to be ECFMG certified by the NRMP deadline (Feb.27) to be eligible for the match, or do we need to be eligible for ECFMG certification (meaning we have all our results in by then)...There seems to be conflicting opinions about this....

There shouldn't be any confusion. You must be certified by the deadline. When you've passed your exams AND your credentials have been verified then you're certified. Until then you're not.

i think you might be wrong jazmil. look at what i found on the NRMP site...
"To be able to participate in the NRMP Match, ECFMG® must verify your exam status, NOT your ECFMG® certification status by the rank order list deadline.?

What exactly does this mean: "exam status"?
Does it mean that they know you will be taking the exam, or that they know you passed the exam. or something else????
I am also not yet ECFMG certified and am in this years match so I was wondering the same and what I thought also was that we have to be ECFMG certified by rank order deadline... At least thats what most programs have told me according to their requirements.

The ECFMG has to verify you have passed all exams necessary to be eligible for the ECFMG certification...
That is what that means, and that is what I have read...basically you don't need to be ECFMG certified, but you have to have all your passing results in by then...if anybody has any differing opinion, please share....

Ok,
I just called NRMP to confirm...
They say:
The deadline to take your exam is Dec 31st.
The score must be verified by Feb 27th (rank order deadline).
If your score is NOT verified by that date you will still have access to the unfilled programs at 12 noon on March 18th.

Also confirm with ECFMG as to when they will issue your certification after your last step score is in... They told me since all my info is verified and fees paid, I should get it within 10 days latest. I know other people say they have gotten it within a week of their score report.

DrVirgo, is that deadline for the CK also, even if we take our CK in Jan, we will still get results by Feb 27th...

Thats what I was wondering too... I'm sure you WILL get your results by Feb 27th if you take your exam by mid Jan latest, but the guy at NRMP told me the deadline to TAKE the exam is Dec 31st... ( I was also wondering WHY so early -but I think it's because there are no exams given in early January) -For CK there are dates available the last few days of Dec, and then jumps to Jan 15th.

Just had a talk with NRMP, from what she said, there is no real deadline for taking the exam, as long as ECFMG can certify you are eligible for certification by the 27th of February...She said something along the lines of there used to be a late Dec deadline for taking the exam to guarantee you will be eligible, but she said I should contact the ECFMG about that...

The ECFMG said the December 31st deadline is for the CS exam. There is no deadline for the CK exams, but the earliest you can give the CK exam in January is January 15th. Therefore if you need to give CK, there is a 6 week gap between January 15th and February 27th, and that should be enough time to get results in, but it is cutting it close.

Thats interesting... Thanks for telling me! I'm calling ECFMG again to confirm. I'm on hold and my call is very important to them..........

Ok got through...
Lady at ECFMG told me that it takes 3-6 weeks to get scores.
Scores must be verified by Feb 27th. -You don't need ECFMG cert. by then as long as you have a passing score.
There is no deadline to take the exam, as long as your scores can be verified by Feb 27th.
Now thinking 6 weeks max to get scores so 6weeks prior to Feb 27th is: around jan 16th? So plan to take your exam latest by mid Jan. Right?

exactly, DrVirgo, it seems we are in the same boat, getting iv's without a step 2 score, it is cutting it close though...(although rarely does it ever take 6 weeks to get a CK score in), it's usually around 4 weeks...if it is the CK you need, I would plan it no later than the 16th, cause 17th is a Wednesday and exactly 6 weeks before the deadline...

My bad. You're absolutely right. Its clearly written in the email they send you after you register (which I thought I read ). Once you've passed your exams you're eligible for the Match. It doesn't matter whether you've been certified yet or not.

you were not the only one jazmil... i also thought you had to be certified to enter the match!

Do you think it's too bold of us to ask for prematch without having the ECFMG cert and CK done? Would they even consider us for prematch after an interview? or would they want to wait to at least see our scores first to know we have passed and the cert is on the way?

THANK YOU GUYS, THINK JUST CLARIFIED A LOT OF MISCONCEPTION WE ALL HAD.
U WON'T GET EXAM DATES ANYWHERE IN THE FIRST 2 WEEKS OF JAN COZ PROMETRIC CENTERS CLOSE DOWN BUT NOT ECFMG.....PPL WILL KEEP RECEIVING SCORES EVERY 3RD /4TH WEEK AS ALWAYS. Maybe that's y they suggest a earlier date to be safe. Anyway, BEST WISHES ALL.  And thank you again.

I doubt they will offer prematch without knowing you passed step 2 CK. If they are impressed with the IV though, I can see them ranking you high, and then you will match there if you pass CK. It seems too risky to offer a prematch to someone who doesn't have the CK result in. If something goes wrong and the candidate fails, everything would just be a mess. I obviously am not an expert on this cause I am in the same situation you are, but that's my opinion on it...

how about if you have all your resuts in (Step 1, Step 2 CK & CS) but your credientials have still not been verified by ECFMG by the 27th of Feb, would u still be considered for the match?

yes, this is discussed in detail above, you don't need to be ECFMG certified by Feb 27th to be eligible for the match, you have to have all your passing results in by then...
