prematch vs match?

Hi! What is the difference between prematch and match? Is it possible to apply after taking only Step 1?

Prematch = the residency program offers you a spot before the match

Match = the candidate makes a list of the hospitals he wants (only the ones he was interviewed at) in order of preference, the hospitals make their lists with the candidates they want, the lists are compared and you are supposed to go wherever you are told to.

It's possible to apply, but not advisable. Competition has been tough, you'd rather have all the results by September to be called for interviews and not waste money.

You can certainly apply next year with step 1 scores. Chances are that you would get few interviews/offers without your Step 2 and ECFMG certification.

Did anybody apply with just Step1 results? Any success?
I didn't even take my Step 1 yet, I just started studying but I'm just curious...... I want to become a Doc ASAP grin

But apply for cs ASAP, to guarantee a spot before August.
