I just wanted to know if there's any difference in an interview 'status' if a program calls an applicant for an interview based on a recommendation and terms it a 'courtesy' interview. Is a courtesy interview any different from a regular interview? Do they still rank such people? I would really appreciate your advice.. thanks so much.

I can't answer this - I haven't done a courtesy interview ever. I would assume it's because a physician who knows you called a program and is interviewing you as a "courtesy "for them. I can't answer how it would be ranked - probably completely based on your interview.
