According to the rules, an H1b visa must be completely paid for by the sponsoring instutition. I don't know how some hospitals get away with making the applicants pay for it. We pay for all the H visa processing.

Do you pay for legal fees as well? I asked my PC and she said that I am liable for all the fees incurred myself. And the sample contract that they gave me said they provide free legal services for immigration, licensure, etc etc.

Chrystal, you do not need any legal advise for your H-1 process.. it is processed by hospital/university and it is a very streamlined process.... do not look for a lawyer for your h1.. it will be a waste

so they should be taking care of it and I do not need to get the visa myself? I am getting confused. Maybe I should wait till mid April when I sign the real contract to clarify these with them.

usually your application will be sent out to USCIS by your hospital/ university ... obviously you fill out the forms what you need to.. at my institution ( a university), my departement does all the paperwork and I only fill out the necessary information, provide copies of required documents etc.. our international center sends out the application and also receives the approvals.. this is when you are already in United States.. if you are in your home country, your hospital/ uni. will apply for the H1 approval and when they receive the approval.. they will send it to you,, which you will take to Consulate office for visa.. Let me know if you still feel confused.. just a little advice--- be confident, H1 is easier for you than J1.. for H1 employer needs to generate more information and data/ papers than what you have to do..
