Hi friends, I am in USA right now and am visiting my home country this month. I will be applying for residency in 2008 for the 2009 match. This is my last visit to home before the application starts. So I need to collect letter of recommendation from my med school profs this time only. MY FIRST Q IS - IS IT TOO EARLY TO TAKE LORs ? HOW OLD LORs ARE REGARDED AS 'NOT RECENT'?? And I saw on the LOR request form that we need to write AAMC ID on it. MY SECOND Q IS- WHEN IS THE EARLIEST THAT I CAN REGISTER WITH MYERAS TO GET AAMC ID? CAN I DO IT NOW? I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN ERAS TOKEN TO GET AAMC ID. Did I do any mistake? I will be really grateful if someone could answer my queries.

too early for 2009 Token can buy from July 2008, then AAMC ID will issue when you used token to apply.

I think the AAMC ID you bought now is not going to be valid for next year's match...I am not sure though...Call ERAS and ask before making any other decisions. Please also post your answer afterwards so that the rest of the forum is informed too... Good luck!!! It will all work out at the end, you'll see.

The token you bought this year will not be valid for next year. But if have a AAMC ID assigned, that will be your AAMC ID forever. So if you apply next year, you will have to buy a new token, but your AAMC ID will be the same. It is like your ECFMG ID, once you get it, you will have the same number forever.

Thanks silenced MD, that is realy an important information. So that means I will have to buy a new token next year and I just wasted my 75$ by doing something without asking anyone.. will never do this mistake again. One last Q. I understood that AAMC is permanant ID. But can I get it now (even if I wont be applying this year) ? So that I can put this number on Reco Letters. I know I am asking so many silly Qs but this is what we are here for right? to exchange information, ideas and support

Yes, you can register and get an AAMC ID assigned even if you will not be applying this year.

And don;t worry about your AAMC ID on the LOR, just make you have your name on it, I didn't have my AAMC on mine, and it was fine, collect your letters from home , and save them till you apply next year. best of luck.

Can I put my usmle/ecfmg ID instead on the LOR? If my LORs dont have aamc number on it, which part of the LOR should I indicate my aamc number if I get one in the future. Tnx

I think you can put your ECFMG Id though i havent seen or heard anyone doing that. And you put your AAMC ID at the top of the letter like this RE:KINGSOFKE AAMC ID: 00000000 Dear Program Director (It just might be one way of doing it).

tnx kingsofke for the input. One more thing, do i write it with a pen/pencil or typed it? Sori for the silly question. I just want to collect lors as early as possible as I'l be away from my home country and will be coming back in july, which i think is already late for me to collect lor during that time, as i may not get them on time for scanning.
