I took the exam at 12th Sep.
It was my first attempt and I was really depressed at the site because I was the only examinee whose mother tongue was not English.

I was so nervous I thought I screwed up but thank Buddha I passed.
I closed the encounter 2~3 minutes ealier than given, and I tried to make patient note very short and simple.

example)
V/S- WNL, Abd - unremarkable etc.

I wrote down the 5 differentials and 5 tests first and then filled up the rest.

3 out of 12 SPs asked me challenging questions but the rest did not so I had to ask them first "Do you have any questions or concerns?"
Most of them answered "No, I don't"

I thought I was gonna fail because 9 SPs out of 12 did not ask me any challenging questions and I thought it was attributable to my poor Enlish speaking.

But here I passed..

I wish all of you very good luck.

Congratulations on your success

Do you mind give a sample on how you would discusse managment plans with the patients, did you use a templet for all of them or you would go on detailes for each different case.

for example would you just tell patients that

We would neeed a blood test and an X-RAY and possibly a CT of your head.

and would you tell them why you need the blood sample for? ( to check his thyroid or Anemia)

or why you need an endoscopy for ?

thanks

Layla

Hi, Layla:
You did a good job! Congratulation!
I am sure you had to encourage yourself to finish the test because I also heard LA centre is not very friendly to IMG.
I plan to take my CS test at the end of Jan. I haven't decide which centre I should go. LA one is the close one for me. Do you think I should still choose LA or somewhere else.
Regards!

Hey, Layla

Actually I used a template for that, and it goes like this;

" Well Mr.XXX, thanks for answering all these questions. let me summarize what you've said first. ((Summarization)). Is there anything that you'd like to add on this?
OK, based on information I got from you and physical exam, I think your condition may be caused by A or B. Also it is possible that you may be suffering from C.
To make the diagnosis complete, I'd like to run some tests on you including a,b,c, and d. E may be needed as well to rule out any possible malignancy.
As soon as I get the results, I'll explain the details and we'll go over your treatment options OK?"

Of course I've changed the details of the sentences according to the case.
And I think I've rarely explained why I'm doing that test unless the SP asked for the explanation.

Hope this helped.

Hi, dudefop:
I am sorry I was confused your name with Layla. I wanted to ask you that question.

Hello Snowdrops!

I never felt LA center was unfriendly to IMGs. Some examinees even say that LA is friendlier to IMG than the other centers. I think if your closest test center is LA, then I very much recommend that you take the exam at the LA center. Proctors there are kind and SPs in LA center are said to be very understading to foreign accents.

Hope this helped too.
Thanks for asking.

Dudefop,

Thank you very much for sharing your expariance, thanks for the closure template, it sounds simple yet very effective. Your post was a great relief for me.

thank you, thank you

Hi Dudefop,

I have been studying FA and UW both. I have noticed that questions in FA are much more targeted to CC than UW. for example: in a case of PID or Appendisit, in FA questions are mostly related to GI and OBGYN while in UW you can see a more detailed questions about heart and lung too.

Do we have to check about all the systems in every patient? ( Basicly how important is ROS for unrelated questions)

Did you do chest and hear exam in a patients with Abd pain?

Thanks again

Hey Layla,
I don't think you should check heart and lungs in a PID case. I only focused on the chief complaints. Here's how I did it. As soon as I read the opening scenario I wrote down 5 differentials on the note, and when the encounter began I asked the patient questions relevant to those 5 differentials. This way I could focus on the chief complaints. Of course, I asked all the PAMHUGSFOSS questions though.

Thanks for asking again, Layla.
Have nice day!
