I had my exam in Houston and I searched for a hotel review on the site but wasn't ery successful so I hope this topic helps a bit.
I stayed at Days Inn Greenspoint Houston with a friend, the double room cost about $60 for both of us, we were lucky to find an online coupon and we got the room for only $40. The room was very simple, it had 2 beds, a bathroom with tub/sink/toilet, tv, closet, phone, alarm, study table and ironing board. You are able to make free phone calls to Houston phone numbers, there is complimentary breakfast in the lobby and a small study area as well as free wifi. There is supposed to be a swimming pool on the premises but it was more like a big bath tub, we wanted to have a swim prior to the exam to relax but we decided not to 
There is a free shuttle to and from the airport too, the same shuttle can take you to the exam center and back from it when the exam is over. The shuttle leaves at 7am, you should notify the reception that you will be going to the exam the day before. The hotel is 5 min away by car, we went by cab because we preferred to go later because the shuttle goes a little early. The cab fare to the center was $12, I think we might have been ripped off. There is a small strip mall next to the hotel and an IHOP, there's nothing better than a good hot meal on the night of the exam to give you a nice boost. There is a big mall there as well; Greenspoint mall. They have fast food chains such as Wendy's, Sbarro, Arby's and others. It's nice to see something else than the book on the night of the exam, a short stroll can relieve tension and increase your efficiency.
We found a coupon by coincidence while looking for a hotel near the test center, it was on google. I suggest that you try to find a coupon online for whatever hotel you go to, be aware of saver programs that require registration; they sometimes charge a fee after a month or 2.
