LOL!!! i think the reason for fraction is, let say70 applicants had 300 iv's..then 300/70=4.28 iv per applcnt. i know for us bio majors math didnt interest us..but i think this is where .65 comes from. but any way i like to know if the data is rite, how did they come up with it? did programs report the numb of iv's to some org. and then they see how many match at the end....???

A friend of mine got only 1 IV and matched.

And in this forum, there is a famous member who got 26 IVs, 3 Prematch offers but refused, finally unmatched.

Number of interviews required to match has already been discussed here:
http://www.prep4usmle.com/forum/thread/62760/

To quote from the thread-prueba- Forum Guru says:

Approximately 90% of independent applicants (about half of them are nonUS-IMGs) match if they rank 13 programs in non competitive fields ("competitive" for AMG...so better called almost imposible for IMGs include: Dermatology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery and Radiation Oncology)

Aprox. 70% if they rank 8 programs

Aprox. 50% if they rank 4 programs

Aprox. 30% if they rank 1 program

check CHART 14 on page 17 here: http://www.nrmp.org/data/chartingoutcomes2007.pdf

Yep the stats are scary- Plus the fact that you can mess up during interviews
As Sheryl Crow put it:
No one said it would be easy
But no one said itd be this hard
No one said it would be easy
No one thought we'd come this far

Wonder if she went through the Match sticking out tongue

Those are statistics that the NRMP gave us from last year and help us on making a rough approximate, that's all.
