Dear bbb,
Please consider this scenario:
A person is offered a position and as the contract is not ready,a letter is assinged saying that "The program accepts him for the residency 2008-2009 and asks him to sign acknowledging the receipt of letter".
Now it doesnt ask to withdraw from NRMP and neither does the program withdraw its seats,but says,will rank him in 1-7(no. of seats is 7) in the ROL and ofcourse asks him to rank them as No.1(for him to be matched to their program).
The letter says absolutely nothing more than what i stated above,
1) Do u feel there is a trick anywhere,where the candidate can be at LOSS?(A sample contract is sent with the program package, should he still expect suprizes?)
2)Can the person be harmed if he doesnt rank this program No.1 in his ROL(can the program hold him liable in any way)?

Why would a program try and trick you? While it sounds unusual, I don't think it would be a trick.

hi smal,
though i am not very sure...my friend was in a similar situation last yr..they said..they dont offer prematches but as they liked her want her to sign...the letter said similar things..about her ranking them no 1 and the program ranking her too..so that was for the match. they also asked her to cancel her other iv's....but not to withdraw from match...in her case..visa things didnt work out so she didnt sign the letter ....but in the same program i knw another candidate who signed the letter on the day of the iv and got matched there later.
is it a program in CA?
thats what i know abt...but BBB's advice wuld be better.i dont knw how authentic the letter stands...

hi smal, i think we both r talking abt the same program in CA.its not my personal exp though..i wish!! the progam is a well known one.both the candidates who were given the similar offer are know to me..one has joined the program. by saying this i mean they do stick to their words.
(If the candidate is made to sign under saying that he has read the letter and accepts the position does it mean he could be held liable in future in any way i.e. if he doesnt rank the program no.1 in ROL?)...dont have an ans to this though.
if u liked the program and is among ur first choices...i wuld say..accept it!
did u hear anything from northridge?if i m not mistaken..u were waiting for that one..

Ya we might be talking about the same program.If you can help me further in this regard in getting in contact with the particular resident,I can mail/PM you my contacts.
The fact that i had never thought about it and not yet graded all my programs is making me think so hard.I am yet to attend my east coast interviewes,where prematch is highly likely(but from what i hear californians are not much prefered by them).
I do have e-mail add. of one of the residents of the program,but i dont think it would be nice AT THIS POINT to talk to her regarding my personal confusions!

about the northridge program,no i didnt get it.I was planning to get back to PC of the program trying to convince her,but now with things going the way they are,will see.
