Hi,i m bit confused,if there occurs reciprocal translocation in CML between chromosome 9 n 22,as per KLN in ds type of translocation a part of long arm of chromosome 9 n 22 is exchanged. My question z wch of two recombinat choromosomes is so called PHILADELPHIA CHOROMOSOME,9 OR 12.

CML is an acquired abnormality that involves the hematopoietic stem cell. It is characterized by a cytogenetic aberration consisting of a reciprocal translocation between the long arms of chromosomes 22 and 9; t(9;22). The translocation results in a shortened chromosome 22, an observation first described by Nowell and Hungerford and subsequently termed the Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome after the city of discovery.
This translocation relocates an oncogene called abl from the long arm of chromosome 9 to the long arm of chromosome 22 in the BCR region. The resulting BCR/ABL fusion gene encodes a chimeric protein with strong tyrosine kinase activity.

Atually ds concept i know,bt my question z where does part of chrmosome 9 translocate .According to concept of reciprocal translocation there z exchange of part of chromosomes between two non homologous chromosomes dtz for CML a part of long arm of ch22 translocates to ch 9 ok,where does part of ch 9 translocate accoding to reciprocal translocation to ch22, how come it z shortened.
