i have a question , can i get accept a prelem IM position then reenter the match next year for categorical at another place ?

Please someone answer wally's Q. I have same concern. My Matchpartner is likely to be eligible for 2010 match and I am planning to apply for prelim IM next year for 2009.
Any input regarding prelim programs is heartily welcome. nod
