Sure..., I got I pre match for categorical IM residency..., meaning that this is a 3 year specialty..., now, signing the contract is a different story..., most of the programs make you sign a contract for PGY1 (at least a lot of people I know) and after this, the program renews the contract for the 2 years left... I am not going into transitional year ... Did it help?...

I am not sure if I am understanding your question or the point you are trying to make... Why would you like to switch if you applied to categorical IM?..., now changing to a dif categorical program, I don´t think is that easy..., I know of some persons that didn´t liked a program and they switch to some other..., but honestly I am not sure how easy or difficult that is...

my idea is that after doing the 1 year in the contract go for pgy1 anaesthesia cause i want anaesthesia but it is now a very competetive speciality only 30 programs sponsor h1 b visa so let the im program sponsor ur h1 b visa.....and also u will have in hand 1 year of usce in a GME program......so it will be nice or am just stupid?!!!!lol?!!!!

Actually it is a good idea in theory, visa wise..., but I don´t know how factual this is..., what I do know is that the right thing to do is to apply to a Transitional year (which is harder to get ) and not to categorical..., since you would be lying from the beginning and that can´t be good... It´s not a stupid idea Wait for others opinion..., good luck

egomez, Can I ask you something.... When did you interview, and how long after the thank you note did you call the program? I'm also in somewhat of the same situation... I expressed my interest in a program and asked if they give prematches... The interviewer made a note saying "Prematch" in my file, and said they still have to interview other candidates and he has to speak to the other interviewers who saw me that day but left it at "lets see how things go, but I think you would fit in well here." After that I sent a thank you note, and its been a couple weeks... Since then I have interviewed at one other place, with ONLY a total of 2 interviews! I would really like to hear back from the first program... Should I hold out for another week or call this week???

Hi Virgo, sorry for not answering earlier. I interview on nov 27 and sent thank you email within 24 hours. Then after 9 days wrote an email asking if pre match was in the work in order for me to cancel other iv in a timely manner. And let me tell you, the day I interviewed, the PD talked about pre match to another person and to me (we talked about it after iv was over), I went ahead and write twice as I said and got it, the other person didn´t get it. I don´t know if writing to them and showing them interest (I also told them I felt in love with the program) had something to with this, but I wouldn´t want to be in a situation of saying to myself "maybe if I had call them I would have got it"... Yes, I think our situations are quite similar. GO AHEAD AND CALL AGAIN, I hope your pre match is on it´s way

transitional - a year rotating through different specialities... i don't know the exact curriculum - a little peds, a little OB, a little medicine, etc... a chance to give the intern time to decide on his/her field of study... very difficult to get a transitional spot!
