Graduate medical education - it's going to be program by program if they mean US or international experience.

Thanks for reply, but I can see in your answer more humor than common sense and I'm afraid it does not help me too much. I'll try to be more clear and I'll put here 2 examples:

Nicki that's bbb signature..., it is not a reply for you..., it appears every time she makes a post...

As bbb posted, GME means Graduate Medical Education..., could refer to US or International...

GME= graduate medical education as everybody says. Using your examples of programs from FREIDA, it's the number of years you have studied in a residency program typically and usually here in the USA. So your experience in psychiatry from your home country wouldn't be GME, but it would be experience and it will and should help you to get more interview invitations.

BUUUUUT, I didn't know GME can be counted as that if it was done in another country, but maybe BBB knows more about this.

So, at least you know for sure part of the answer, the other part (international?) I'm not sure but looks like BBB (program coordinator in one medicine program by the way) thinks that, so....

hope this helps and hope my answer is not confusing enough as to be of no help at all.

Those look like individual program requirements and it doesn't specify if it's international or US experience.

Thanks Chemamr and Egomez for your clarifications.

I don't think so Nicky...., go ahead and apply to those programs....

Nicki the two examples you provided is for plastic surgery... to be certified for plastic surgery in the US you have to complete 3 yrs of general surgery residency training first then enter a plastic surgery residency of two years. thats why it these programs require 3 years GME...

most programs which start at the PGY1(post grad year 1) level do not require previous GME
