Hello guys, i saw some questions in NBME thought..i should post this topic here. if u guys can contribute then we wouldnt miss any lab questions abt the lungs. i am going to post some of them..and see if u guys wanna add more stuff..or correct me if i am wrong. tnx. 1. Asthma : FEV1 sec decrease, FVC decrease, so FEV1 sec/ FVC see decrease, TLC : decreases? not sure abt this, FRC : increase, RV : increase. 2. CF pt: i think everything would be decrease here. 3. atlectasis : FEV1 sec : decrease, FVC : decrease, FEV1 sec/ FVC : increase ? TLC : decrease, FRC : decrease, RV : decrease.. some other ones..i am tryng to figure out are: removing lobe of lung, in pul HTN and pul edema. if u guys would plz check this and add more stuff..i think would be helpful for everyone..tnx. good luck.

well dabears i'll try to help. If u have an obstructive disease like asthma, these will increase: TLC (total lung capacity), RV ( residual volume) and FRC (functional residual capacity) now since it's an obstructive disease u will be able to inspire a lot of air (IRV) but to expire it quickly in one second is not possible (because of the obstruction).
