Program Name: Washington Hospital Center Date of Interview: november 08 Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: at my friend's Level of "stress" (0-10): 3 How many interviewers: 2 How many applicants: 18 Tour included visits to: er, icu, library, heart failure floor, chairman's conference Questions asked: usual..tell me about urself, why internal medicine, fellowship interests, what am i looking for in a program, if i have any questions etc.. happy residents: yes / no / ? : yes research oriented: yes / no / ? yes(not mandatory, but very strongly recommended and supported) prematch offers? not for me visa sponsored? J1 only City: DC What I liked the most: very teaching oriented, q9 calls, the hospital(they never refer any patients out..guess how advanced that would be) What could be improved: i am not big enough to suggest any changes in a program and hospital that is one of the nation's best Rate experience (0-10): 9(would have been 10 if they sponsored H1) Conclusion: even if i dont match here, i consider myself lucky to be interviewed here..anybody who interviews here will have a first hand experience of how kind and gentle the chairman and PD are( we were allowed to attend faculty round and the chairman himself spent 1 hour with us, talking and encouraging us to speak..i doubt if many programs do this)

I entirely agree with gingko....had mine a couple of days back...Bautiful hospital, fantastic program---Only problem is NO H1 at all....... From my side, I would like to add a point to gingko's post---Research is mandatory---All residents have to complete a project during their 3 years it seems. And also, interview questions depends on the faculty interviewing you. The one who interviewed me had entirely different sets of questions with critical situation in my life (Not medical questiona )..But, Don't worry---Everyone there are really really cool........The program co-ordinator would help you a lot if you have any questions or trouble. Hope this helps!

To add one more---I stayed in Youth Hostel (10 min by cab to hospital). I would highly recommend this place in DC...Very well maintained and I am not sure whether I would see a room like this in entire US for 25 bucks per night...

That's not true. The PD actually called me to make sure why I cancelled my iv, and I said it's bcz of the visa. He said he ll give some prematch, and all of these would be sent an H1. For the remaining candidates into the match, J1 only.

Oops... Sorry about that....That's true mph. While I was writing the post, I was thinking of only match and NOT pre-match since I was sure that I am not going toget one. You would have a better chance over there mph for a prematch. Good luck!

I copied cadaver's experinece from another post... Program: GWU, Washington DC December 07 Medicus for your answer for that, i think i have been only one who had iv there, program is nice, they don't put you on spot light,,, they do not ask you any think medical the schedule is: you arrive at the hospital at 0730 they give a badge with your name and your medical school on it. I was only IMG there, all have been from very big name universities in US. @ around 0800 they take you to the morning report,,, they have a case presentation,,,, chief resident write on the board, every body give his/her impression. After the case they look at labs and ct scan via a projector,,, then they show MKSP case for each resident on projector and each resident will pick an answer. the interesting thing is that the PD is in the morning report room. After that we had a breakfast, and then went to interview. each person was assigned for two interviewer. The interesting part was that the interviewer did not know anything about you but your name. They let you speak and you are leading the interview in the most of the part they are asking you about your goals and ambitions in a very friendly manner some times i forgot that i am in interview,,,, moral of the story the interviewers are assigned to answer your question. After that you do the lunch with the residents,,, you ask them all questions you want,,, they were very happy,,, and again i did not see any IMG among them. After we finished the lunch the chief resident toke us to the hospital tour,,, hospital is nice,,, and they told us that they have dick cheney as their guest in the cardiac ward all the time,,, and they said don't surprise to see senators as well as homeless pts,,, and other officials in the ER. Over all it is a dream hospital,,, at the end i saw only one foreign graduate,,, he said he is doing MPH in the hospital, and the whole tuition cost is paid through the hospital,,, and the other think i heard is now 3rd year residents do moonlighting in this hospital. i wrote this because nobody has posted any experience about the hospital, i hope this will help future applicants to have less anxiety, before IV
