the total time limit for PT ,aPTT, and Bleeding time?
What is their significance?

  #2

BT is the screening test for primary hemostasis disorders..;such as lesion of vasculature; scurvy...thrombocytopenia...disorders of adhesion " Bernard SOULIER" , aggregation " GLANZMANN"....
the result of these perturbations is INCREASING BLEEDING TIME//// PT and PTT are?????? if it's just a problem with primary hemostasis....

PT and PTT are the screening test for secondary hemostasis

PT is the screening test for the extrinsic pathway ( factors 7....)

PTT is the screening test for the intrinsic path ( factor 8 factor 9, V.Willebrand factor....

some examples////
primary hemostasis disorders/
trombocytopenia.: " primary hemostasis disorders... increase BT. test platelet count. PT and PTT are ????
secondary hemostasis disorders///

for Hemophilia A " classic" : increase PTT///
PT and BT are???? remember its secondary hemostasis D/O
test is factor 8 assay.

hemophilia B.: "Christmas.H" increase PTT...
PT and BT are??? it is secondary hemostasis D/O
test is factor 9 assay.

mixed disorders///
DIC: increase BT increase PT and PTT and increase thrombin time or fibrinogen assay.
VW disease: increase PTT and BT/// PT is normal.
hope this will help you...good luck.

in addition to above'
clinical presentation of primary hemostasis or platelet problem is petechiae and or purpura
test is BT and platelet count.

for secondary hemostasis or coagulation D/O: clinical presentation is generally deep tissue bleeding hemarthroses....test PT PTT.

VW factor : stabilizes factor 8 ; enables paltelet aggregation and enables platelet adhesion to endothelium this is why BT and PTT increased.

if u are asking about their ranges than estimately
pt=11-14 second
ptt=20-25 seoconds
bleeding time=3-10 minutes
any increase in their values would be due to many conditions , few of mentioned by mistal92
