can some on expain why in steady state concept it is assumed that drug is given inravenously. i mean why not oral or subcutaneous routes are considered.

i think that with intravenous infusion we assume that the rate of entry of drug in the body is constant the majority of drugs are FIRST ORDER
that is a constant fraction is cleared per unit of time ...therefore the rate of excretion of the drug would be proportional to it's concentration as the plasma drug concentration increases...
the diffrence with oral administerd drugs is there ABSORPTION so the plasma concentration of drugs would be proprtional by BOTH the RATE OF ABSORPTION and the rate of drug elimination.absorption of drugs adminitered by this route ( oral) is "'slowly".

I will like to sumarize mitral92's concept in few words.
in IV, the bioavailability is 1 (100% drug absorbtion)
