I got email from 2 programs today to say people were not turning up for the interviews.they did not bother to cancel at all.
those slots wre essentially wasted.

Agreed. I personally experience at almost every interview i attend, one applicant becomes a no show.

I know it is frustating but some people have interview every other day; maybe something happened with their flight /car or maybe they just signed, in the previous day, a prematch.
Of course it is nice to call but ...
