does anyone know if it is too late to match if I take my step 2 ck jan 31 and cs feb 11? I know the deadline for the rank is Feb27th does that mean I have to have my scores by then? I tried looking at the faqs on the nrmp website, but did not find anything.

Is it too late for me? confused

any help is appreciated

One more Q, if it is too late for the match, can I still scramble? I really am lost to this whole process and due to personal reasons fell back in timing my exams.

Any help is really greatly appreciated

Are you currently interviewing with your Step 1 score ? If yes, then there is a possibility that some program will match you. And even if you dont match, they will have your record on file so that they can accept you through scramble.

If you have not started ERAS, and have not attended IVs, you will not make match or scramble, IMO.

My advice would be to focus on your exams. Make sure you do well and rank in a good program in 2009, then to rush your exams and maybe end up on the short end of the stick.

Good luck........

Thank you soo much for your help! I am actually debating if i should submit my applications to the programs.

I have completed everything, all my application materials I just did not want to start the interview process before I knew if it is a possibility.

Can I still get an interview or is that too late too?

I guess my q is, if I apply to programs now and by God's grace get a few interviews, will nrmp still let me in the match if I do not have my scores by the deadline?

Thanks for your help!!

As far as I know if you're not ECFMG certified by the rank order deadline then you can't participate in the Match. And in order to be ECFMG certified you would need to pass step one, two -CK and CS, and have your medical diploma verified.

Now, if you're thinking of doing CS in February then you won't get your score before the deadline. Please correct me if I'm wrong.. but this is my understanding of the match process.

Hope that helps. Good luck with your exams!

Thank you doc1981, I appreciate ur help.

so that means u say I can still scramble later even if I don't make the match? I am sorry if these q's seem silly it's very confusing!!

I understand I might not make the deadline, it usually takes about 6 wks to get scores, and I won't have it by then, but does that mean I can still scramble if I didn't participate in the match?

Thanks again!

-people who did not match participate thru scramble

-so if you are not eligible for match....e.g.don't have ECFMG certificate by deadline---you won't be able to match---hence won't be able to scramble----

----I AM NOT SURE........CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG

You are completely right

not ECFMG certified--> no match nor scramble

If you want to participate in match, CS must be taken before Dec 31.

No sorry hgheith.. You would need to write all your exams by 31st Dec in order to be eligible for the match AND scramble. You can't participate in the scramble if you're not eligible for the match. Hope this helps.

simple answer: YES, it's too late.

confused Thanks for the help, although I will be certified before the scramble, will that make a difference?

I really appreciate you're input everyone, I guess now I can focus on exams instead of applying this year.

Good luck to you all!

with CS in February, you will not bicertified on time, and there is nothing you can do

what you CAN do, is try to get a spot outside of match, and it's been done before. there are spots that become available agter matched people do not report due to visa issues or whatever reason, so hospitals will take anyone (eligible, which you will be by THAT time), who show up at theit doorsteps... literally or on the phone or by e-mail....

on my last interview I met a guy, who is going to take his CK and CS sometime in December, but he was from Harvard and can afford such luxury, we on another hand have to have at least our exams done before that.

good luck

Thank you babydoc4usmle for that wonderfull hint of hope! You have lifted my spirits today, I just wanted to know how will I know what programs have unfilled positions? Is there a website or agency that looks it up?

Again thank you for that great piece of info! good luck to you!

  #16

i am not sure about where to get such info, search through forums, i am sure you will be able to find aomething....and then let me know, 'cause I am not sure that I will not need this information at the end smiling face

my suggestion to you work on possible places now, see where IMGs in vast majority (more chances of visa problems to occur), look up unfilled positions from last years on ERAS, NRMP, but there is no predictablility based on that. I would concentrate on "IMG-hospitals" and start calling them starting in april-may so you would have few places left by june

check the NRMP website
http://www.nrmp.org/data/index.html

Thanks CocaCola, and babydoc4usmle!! I just got some good news from nrmp, I emailed and asked them about my situation and they said that if i apply before the deadline but do not meet requirements I will be withdrawn from the match BUT I CAN still scramble! SO just to correct dr.roh, robin082006, minang, and anyone who has doubts, you can scramble if you don't participate in the match as long as you apply before the deadline. After that it's up to the program to accept you or not. That's a good last resort for anyone, and better than nothing for me!

Good luck to you all!

That is true. Im just not a big fan of the scramble. It can be done, but chances are very low. He's better off doing what babydoc said: try to get a spot outside the match. smiling face

Thanks for the info hgheith. I don't want to discourage you. You can try doing the scramble. But, you can read experiences of people in this forum from last year scramble: http://www.prep4usmle.com/forum/comments.php?id=5...

Good luck.

Thanks for the post minang, don't worry, I beileve that God has a plan for everyone, so if it is meant to be that I scramble and get a spot, then it will happen, and if not, then it won't and we can only accept what is written for us, besides it wouldn't make sense not to even try!

Either way as long as their is a chance that's all that matters, and a chance is better than no chance right! Good luck to you all!!

  #22

You need to be eligible for ECFMG certification by Feb 27 to match or scramble...if you give the CS on Feb 11th, you obviously won't have your result in by then...removing you from post match or match...your CK result might be in by then, but without CS result it is a waste, might as well postpone your CK, try to get an awesome score and apply next year...or get a CS date in december...

  #23

Thanks for the advice wolverine9, it does make sense and who knows what will happen, but if you read just a few lines above in this post, I can and people in my shoes still can scramble eventhough some people say chances are very low, it's stil a chance!

Good luck to you !
