I found in the site of the Albany College of Medicine the following:
http://www.amc.edu/Academic/GME/residency/Interna...
"New York State mandates that you do not spend more than 12 weeks of elective time outside of your medical school country while enrolled as a student (prior to receiving your medical degree). If you have spent more than 12 weeks away from your medical school country, you are ineligible for training in New York State."

Anybody faced this problem .
I'm scheduling for 3 months and I did 2 months of electives in the UK as a medical student.
does it mean I cant apply to NY in the next match???

Any help please
I know that NY is IMG friendly.
and its ridiculous to lose this chance just because I have a good US experience!!!!

NY State requires that you do your last year of medical school IN the country of your medical school...
I read this on the NY licensing site... I'll post it if I find it.

Found it....
"You must complete the final year of medical education at the school that awarded you the degree."

See: http://www.op.nysed.gov/medlic.htm

This means if you went to a Carribean school and then did your 4th year rotations in the US, you are not eligible to apply for residency in NY.
-This is a bit of a catch-22 situation, because most residency programs require US clinical experience, but then they have stupid laws like this!!! sad

Thanks Dr.Virgo
its really stupid bcoz in the link I put before they said you must have at least six months of USCE!!!
so according to what you said: if I did my whole 4th year in my scool but did 3 months electives during its summer holiday before graduation, Then am I eligable to apply for NY or not??

I don't know cooldoctor... You should call the programs in NY directly and tell them of your credentials and situation and find out if you are eligible to apply. Please come back and post here to tell us what you find out.
Thanks.
