what would be expected to see in a patient with horseshoe kidney?

a) berry aneurysm
b) normal renal function
c) hypertension
d) vesicoureteral reflux

  #2

D..

  #3

what happens in vesiculoureteral reflux?

I checked different books, but didn't find a clear cut answer. can you explain the answer, thanks!

  #4

i think it is..b.normal function

  #5

i agree with usmleasr, normal function...but we should check other GUS abnormalities because of coincidence

  #6

dyk,

Whats the answer ??

  #7

i go with normal function.i read in embryo some time ago

  #8

sorry, i actually don't have the answer but i'm pretty sure it is normal function. horseshoe kidney can accompany other abnormalities, including vesicoureteral reflux (one source said 50%). but in most cases, it is an incidental finding and no reason to suppose any abnormalities.

any other thoughts?

  #9

yep,

I too read that 50% chance of VUR ..and UTI is also a complication .
Hope its normal function since most of the time its incidental finding .

  #10

normal function but predisposed to infection, since another "physiological" kink is introduced to ureter
