Hi everyone!!! coolcoolcool

My name is Juan alias pmapunk66, but you all can call me Juanangrin. I'm getting prepared for the Step 1 and obstinately pursue a 99 score!! So, the main reason I'm writing all this things is not the get you bored, but to receive all the cheers and advices that I'm sure I'll find here, as you'll find mine!! (sorry if I get my English wrong, I'm doing my best!)

Well, to start a lil bio and actual situation: I'm 21 years old, born in the USA, lived most of my life in Panama and now I'm studying my 4th year of medicine in Spain. D-day will come for sure on September of 2008 nod, just before I start my 5th Med School year (In most of the European medicine degrees the length of studies is 6 years, of which 3 are basic and 3 clinical). As you can see I have approx. 9 months for the preparation (actually 5 months), so I think this journal is going to be more likely focused to receive and give the help to another examinees with the same long and busy prep time as mine, as well of course advices of those in other situations.

Actually I sort of started the prep and was looking forward to be tested on May 2008, but pressure of the med studies, clinical clerkships and the coming final tests of January were increasingsad, so I plan to stop now and focus in med school. I'm looking forward to restart on February the 8th of 2008, when the first semester final exams are done. Then I'll continue till mid September 2008 (w/o studying on May and June bc of med school and finals) when my test should take place: that makes approx. 24 weeks of prepgrin; weekdays of which I'll have to attend classes and hospital, excluding vacations of July and August, time of which I'll be breakfasting, drinking and partying USMLE S1 lol!!!

1. Materials:
- The 7 Kaplan Lecture Notes
- Kaplan Qbook
- FA USMLE S1 2007 (will buy the 2008 edition when published)
- FA Q & A for the USMLE
- FA Cases for the USMLE

2. Looking-forward-to-get Materials:
- HY Embryology
- BRS Pathology
- BRS Physiology
- Underground Clinical Vignettes: Biochem
- FA for the Wards (as a more clinically oriented review book for my Step 1) I'll try using this and other books (such as FA USMLE S2) troughout this years to gradually prepare for my Step 2 CK.
- Any more suggestions????? grin

3. QBank: UW or Kaplan??? DUNNOOO!! sad but of course I'll start Qbanks somewhere around July 2008. Maybe both???? raised eyebrow Will do as well all NBME forms gradually on July and August, if I save enough $$$ confused ---- Should I get DVD's, tapes, videos, etc etc???

4. Was planning as well to divide the studies in this blocks and percentages of study time, trying to integrate related subjects: woot do you think about????
  1. Behavioral 7%
  2. Biochem + Genetics 12 %
  3. Molec. Bio + Histo + Embrio + Anato 12 %
  4. Micro + Inmuno + Antimicro. Pharm 29 %
  5. Physio + Patho + Pharm 50%

5. There's no 5, so you should now start posting!!! Doubts, advices, threats, flatteries, comments, studying techniques, methods, strategies and time distributions are all welcome!!! I can use your prayers as well!!cool

Hope I do my best and that everything goes well until day 1, Feb the 8th of 2008!

Sincerely yours,
JUANANgrin

just see if this works for you

when you have your clerkships.. and you see a patient with a condition .. come home , open up goljan rapid review , search for that condition in the index given at the back of the book

and read that condition up like 10 times

it will help you with your clerkships as well as you will have done atleast 50% path that way
