What is the definition of this abbreviation? How does it select Q and score?
Does it load a pre-selected set of 50 questions for the each block, or give you every next question individually depend on your previous answer?

it's the software to run questions.

The software is exactly as in the USMLE CD, or can be downloaded at www.usmle.org

Practice it and you will be familiar with it.

Scoring USMLE exams is confidential, nobody knows how our tests are scored.

Thanks a lot. I did.
The question is (To Be Or Not To Be:-) What is FRED for?

Is FRED the adjustable difficulty format?

===========================================
Announcement from the National Board of Medical Examiners:

At present, the test software used to deliver the computer-based components of the United States Medical Licensing Examination(tm)
(USMLE(tm)) is provided by Prometric, a division of Thomson Learning, Inc. The National Board of Medical Examiners(r) (NBME(r)) is developing new software for the USMLE. The NBME software, known as FRED(tm), will begin to replace the Prometric software in the fall of 2004.

Since it was Fall of 2004 it has already been installed at all Prometric Centres and the cd you get from the USMLE is exactly the same format as the real exam.

And no this is not an adjustable difficulty format and your exam doesnt get easier or tough just based on your last block performance.

I read somewhere in the time around year 2004 that abbreviation FRED is some variant of adjustable difficulty format. I think save it somewhere on CD. I will find and post.
