Hi guys, just found i failed, wrote exam Oct. 31...it was very hard and long passages; block 1 pressed for time guessed 3 question...blocks 2 and 3 worked faster but rushed questions by reading half of questions and making educated guesses...many tough questions with two answers i felt...ambigious as hell...I thought i hated step 1 but this was worse! I passed step 1 on second attempt with 81/198 on March 31/07...i really underestimated this exam b/c people saying step 2 is little easier...the hell it was! I read CRUSH x 3, FA x2 and skimmed B&W and Secrets here and there(didn't like that book's format) Of course did UW 41% completed first round...didn't have time for second round. did questions people posted...Would like to thank those people who posted from their exam...but of which only a few were on my exam...I was so drained after my exam and just hated myself for not studying hard enough...although September and October I did study and 3 wks before put in 8-10h a day...
that's my story, Any advice on people passing would be appreciated...What should i focus on second time round and which source would help most...please and thanks...

sorry to hear about your situation.

do kaplan notes x 4

kaplan videos x 4!!! memorize these and they WILL serve u well. long and long and tedious but if you spend every free minute of yours listening to these videos on mp3 format they will help you loads. u can speed it up to 1.5x or 2x for some lecturers.

again and again and again and again and again. then do usmleworld at least twice. try to average 65% and above. do nbme - getting a high score has very high predictive value of at least passing the exam. dont sit for the exam again until youre fully ready.

I'm really sorry to hear that you failed. But don't get disheartened. Since most of the CK syllabus will be fresh in your mind it'll help you to start studying again.

First of all, you've gotta try and pinpoint your weak areas/subjects. You didn't mention in your post if you've read Kaplan notes. I suggest you should. They're excellent. I used kaplan notes + first aid for some topics and notes that I had made from usmleworld.

Secondly, the score that you got in the first round of usmleworld (41 percent) should have served as a warning sign that you weren't quite ready to write the exam. Nonetheless, I suggest you should do usmle world again along with a fresh question bank like Kaplan Qbank. The more questions you do the better you'll get at answering them. And you've mentioned that you were skimming through some questions on the real exam. So, I feel you should practice more questions to get a better feel for them. Trust me it helps!

Finally, two-three weeks before the CK you should do NBME Form two. I would advice you to not practice NBME questions that are posted online prior to writing Form two since it beats the very purpose of this test. If you're happy with the score then it indicates you're ready to write the real exam.

I know you might be stressed right now... BUT, you can do it. We're all there to help you. Take a deep breath and get back to studying as soon as you can, since everything is still relatively fresh. Read Kaplan notes and practice questions.

Have faith! Wish you all the very best.

docsuccess,i m sorry 2 hear ur situation,my strong advise 2 u is dont leave studying a topic unless u r thorough with it,it is not da number of times u read dat counts, try 2 master da topics such dat u dont have 2 read da topic again, den nothin can shake u,its not gonnu take much time 4 u,u know most of da topics by now ,just try 2 master dem,pls make ur own notes of everything in a simplified way,try 2 have mnemonics if u tend to forget some things, next time,u shud never forget dat topic

Hey docsuccess! Do not lose your heart. Concentrate and work harder over the weak areas. Try to write down the notes on a page when you want to re-check your weak topics. Writing down the same again and again really helps in memorizing things strongly. Wish you the best ahead.

Thanks supra.
Thanks for the encouragement Rx. I may sound positive at times but i can really get down sometimes...that's when replies such as yours and of course supra and above really really help...i don't know maybe b/c for a moment someone cares about my situation. I do need help memorizing and appreciate the advice...Thanks and Best Wishes to you as well.

I can understand how hard it is to stay always positive . You can't control the negative impulses from all around. But what you CAN DO is to have enough nerves to fight them back. Be always reminded that each time you fail, you are actually heading one step closer to your success. Keep your focus to the goal and not the tiring and depressing path. Its a blessing for you to discover that this is your biggest Weakness that is to be set back by these negative whispers and impulses. Trust me if you want it...you can really do it. Good luck!

I dont think I have ever heard of anyone taking the usmle step 2 ck with forty percent on usmle world thats your mistake I was seventy percent on usmle world when I passed

the most important thing you need to do is,shed all those negative thoughts from your mind and start afresh with a positive attitude.............. my story isn't different, only thing is i failed step 1 and then went on to take step2 instead..... but throughout it my negative thoughts kept me on the edge........... and now i regert it.i feel if i'd been positive on my step2 attempt i would have done a lot better.i have a post in this forum on my experience, see if it helps you.
