Thannx docsucess,Lemme tell u about my study ,I started studying from july15th,gave my exam on november 1st,study time-3 1/2 months ,i havent taken step 1 yet,dis was my first exam,i did my anesthesiology residency in my home country,i thought i wud be better2 start with da clinical subjects first, Now i realise dat any exam would have been okay,and can be taken first.my study materials Kaplan notes,FA,UW.dats it,,after giving first reading of kaplan in 15 days,i;e by august 15th i gave my 1st reading of kaplan,without actually knowing waht is important,when i did some kaplan question bank which i had it in a cd format for 10 to 15 days,i wasted my time ,wasnt satisfied with the things ,my one reading gave me nothing,i was scoring only50s,then i realised i just gave a fast reading without undertsnding the real concepts.then in 11 days i gave another kaplan reading,dis time again( i realised later) i did not do a thorough reading,then gave UW with a half knowledge-score -only57%,i did everything in timed mode took one month to do it,did it subject wise,then extended it another 10days,did all the wrong questions again,dis time score was 67%(correct+wrong),uw was the one which actually gave me the real momentum,i was able to then undertstand the pattern of questions,while doing uw i was reading kaplan notes and added da information of uw on da same page of topic in kaplan,then i gave 10 days of kaplan reading which was loaded with new information .when i felt i did not understand one topic,i used to read it from CMDT,like endocrine-parathyroidism,infective endocarditis etc,i tried to be perfect atleast with all da main topics in IM,KAPLAN IS MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR SURGERY,PEADIATRICS,GYNAEC N PSYCHIATRY.The first time i read kaplan ,i just read without retaining much ,
,i felt kaplan was just not enough,coz i dint read it properly,then every next time i read it,i found a new point which i missed b4.we need to read in between da lines in kaplan,every line in kaplan could be a question,i will not say it is complete but if u do uw ,dat fills all the blanks which kaplan fails ,so in my experience,kaplan +uw = complete material for da exam ,i gave nbme form 2- 17 days b4 da exam got 550(229),i thought it was okay but i was firm on improving over dat ,den gave 7 days of one more reading of kaplan n my super notes n den thought i must have have improved a little bit,i gave nbme form 3 -9 days b4 my exam-my concentration was poor-i was a little bit over confident -i thought i wud atleast not get a score below 550,i.e form 2 score.i was wrong ,i scored only 460(207),i was depressed ,at one point i thought i should even postpone my exam,then i gave my last reading of kaplan n my own notes n re- read again in da last 2 days (which i usually tend 2 forget like pediatric growth,etc),finally gave my exam on nov 1st -da night b4,i went 2 bed at 9 p.m so dat i can wake up early but was tosssing on my bed, cudnt sleep till 2a.m,then took a benadril ,got up at 7.45,centre was nearby,rushed there ,was on time,entered da exam room,started da 1st block,found difficult 2 concentrate ,cud finish only 20 questions in the first half hour,den dats it,i was taken back,if dis was da way i m gonnu adjust my time,all my efforts will be gone to da winds,den i started concentrating,pressure was buliding up.diarrhea started ,after evry block i had rush to keep pace with my bowels autonomic nervous system,by the miidle of 6 th block,i was totally exhausted,may be even dehydrated totally.just told myself some encouraging words every 15 min n den ultimately finished my exam,final score-241/99,dats my story,

hey genbot,if i remember right,u gave ur step 2ck at da same time as mine,i know u wud have done extremely well in da real exam with uw scores 80% n 800 in all the NBMEs',PLS DO SHARE UR SCORE n experience WITH ALL OF US .GL

falcon-i listened to some of da DVD's like surgery(i liked surgery a lot),then psychiatry,but psychiatry was not very useful,it consumes lot of time,some IM-CARDIO,RESP,RENAL,ID,CNS, and gynaec-mostly its repetitive lecture,good to remember things,didnt like obs,coz he takes too much time,i feel stats n ethics very useful coz i gave my step 2 first,i found da DVD's very very useful,PEDIATRICS TOO i listened to all his DVDs ,they were okay,if u have time u can listen to them.actually listening to the DVD'S CAN BE DONE during the first read, IF U HAVE enough time 4 ur exam,and if u feel u didnt understand whats given in da book.hope dis helps.
