Is anybody out there doing residency on a J2, if so... what's the process involved in doing so? do you have to apply for a work permit? what should be planned ahead?

Hi,
Some programs allow you to do a residency on J2 with EAD.
But it takes some time (2-3 months) to get EAD..
So apply immediately.
Look at the USCIS website for further details.
But the EAD has to renewed every year and you should do it a few months before so that the previous one doesnt expire.
