hi everyone,,im really new to all this soo ill just say that i am a mother of 3 kids tried studying for step 1 but it was just too much for me,,i really need to know that there are moms like me out there and who are struggling to give their steps,,this is something we just got to do,,no way escaping it,so plz if any female is interested to be my sp online or on phone i am here, again i live in nj...ok then bye and good luck

hi i m also a mom of 11 mon old baby boy and trying to study at home . but its really very difficult ,, i started my prep 1 yr back , but that was like on n off ,, so i m planning to join an institute like kaplan but that is not in philli,, I THINK kaplan live prep available in NJ .. i dont know what should i do ?  so plz tell me what i do?

i really understand what u r going through, because i have three young kids,but now two have started going to svchool, so i find time to study,,first of all u should decide whether you have the money and time for kaplan or not,,if u do then go to their website kaplanmedical.com and look at the courses they offer,if u find something that suits your time and scedule and budget then go for it,,orrrrr..u can buy kaplan lecture notes from ebay or someplace or someone and start a schedule,decide how many solid hours u can devote to study ,,once u knkow how much timw u can give,u can start on any subject u wish,butu do need the kapln notes,to start with.if u need more advice u can pm and then i can give u my phone number,but dont worry inshallah everything will be ok

jazakALLAH ,,, ya u r rite .. actually we are moving to philli in dec or 1st wk of jan INSHAALLAH ,, bcoz my husband got a job overthere,,actually i have gone thru all the subjects only 1 time ,, but now i wanna do study very seriously bcoz i want to write step 1 in 2008 INSHAALLAH ,,, so thats y i need an institute ,, and may b my motherinlaw ll 'to my place INSHAALLAH ,, then i can have more time to study ,, i m from pakistan and i did my MBBS from SMC and and tell me something abt u ... we can talk on phone if u feel comfortable ..

I am also from Pakistan, I have been trying to study, but it`s been on and off, so I am also looking for some one serious to study with `coz its difficult to study alone and things get a lot easier if you are studying with someone who is motivated. Salam,
I am also interested in studying with a little bit busy mom  , cause I am too busy and can't work more than 4 or 5hours a day since I am still in my 7th year (last year) of my medecine studies and I am currently in training.
-we will do a good program and try to do our best to stick to it inshaAllah
-Each one gonna motivate the other one and be on her side when feeling saturated.
-we will discuss ambiguities, questions...
-at the End we will pray for each others to succed with a goos score inshaAllah

it's really difficult to restart studying after a long nap..But it's possible with a good program and motivation....here is some questions that can helps u making a program
how many free hours that u can manage per day?
Do u prefer studying in early morning, or at night?
what r your activities during week-end?

salam and hi to all mothers,,,well my advice to everyone is first determine how many hours or what r the times during the day that u can actually devote to ur studies,,but it has to be consistent, then find some good study partners,,u can find someone here at this forum, i am sure,,this forum is really helpful,,once u find ur partners,,just start a subject with them, i found it very useful to start a couple subjects at one time,,,insteadof taaking one subject then finishing that then start another,,,but make sure u do at least one hour of questions eavery day,,and after at least one reading of all subjects,,start to incorporate first aid into ur schedule,,andddd also more questions,,and hopefully u will get a good score,,but really dont prolong the whole process,,make sure u actually start when u know u can finish it or else u will be really discouraged...good luck to everyone who is about to embark on this journey with children in their homes((and a husband))

salam dear Zursha,
I really find your advice very good and important..I am new in this forum and I am still waiting for a study partner (female).. I am programming to do the first reading of Kaplan books and first aid with Q book, but I can only study 4 hours per day because I ve some training, do u think I can finish the first reading by next August 2008?

oh of course ghizo, u can definitely finish first reading by august,,as i said b4,,start studying two subjects at one time,,like if u have 4 hours to devote to studies,then divide 2 for one subject and other 2 hours for another,,that way u can finish two subjects in at least one to two months, depending on how ur speed is,,but really target for one month,,but those 4 hours should only be for studies and constructive study not breaking tempo,,u should be good then,,and when u feel as if ur losing ur focus, then do something that would make u feel real guilty like watching a movie during those 4 hours of study,or doing something else during those hours that should be for study,,watch u will feell soooooo guilty that the very next day u should be refocused and serios again.,it might work try it but i really hope ur serious enough about ur studies to begin with and that will last till the end..ok good luck bye

i am real happy that i can actually help some one out,,,because trust me i have been in that place beforeand it is soooo frustrating,,plus the social pressures plus the pressure thats coming from the inside,,it can get really overwhelming,,the thing is again ill say it make sure u have 6-8 months solid to devote to studies,,and everyday u can devote 4-5 hours to studies,,until u know for SURE u can do this trust me,,dont confuse urself,,but still good luck cuz i think all moms need it.....

I'm a mom of 2 boys;wanting to start Step 1 reading;have done it before,so looking for Serious devout study partner who has done reading before to do a Final read & questions.Want to organize a schedule from 2nd week of Jan till March & sit for Exam in April first week.
All those who really want to stick to a schedule & get this exam Behind then in FLYING Colors are welcome to join in.!!
