Hello everybody!

I am preparing for step 2 ck now, but I would like to know how many months in advance I should apply for step 2 CS...I read some of the posts and got the point that it is a little bit tricky and nerve racking to get an exam date. OK, lets say today is Nov 15/ 2007. I am planning to take step 2 CK June or July. Is it better to go for CS before (march or april) CK or after (august or september). When should I apply for the exam and get a date??? Today???

i would register for it when you can. the test period is good for one year starting from when your application is processed. so Jan2008-Jan2009. and then you can pick the date when you want. it helps to have the CK but if you have clinical experience it will all come back to you when you study for the CS. but take the CS seriously. people have failed it.

good luck.

it depends on your schedule. and then also consider the hotel and food and expenses. Philadelphia and LA can be expensive. Atlanta and Houston and Chicago are cheaper. Seriously it can add up, taxi, food, and hotel. so think about that. at least 3-4 months i think. it is seems easier in the beginning of the year since there is a rush to make interview season.

good luck.

I would advise to give the CS as soon as possible (in march and april), which means book a date right now..., the reason is because the results take a while...and with the new increased standards, many more are failing (especially IMG's), i've heard many cases of people scoring 98-99 and failing in the CS, so just in case something goes wrong, you want to give yourself a chance a reapply and get the result in time for matching...good luck...

I agree with Wolverine, I think that the exam is not as easy as it used to be judging by other members' experience in comparison to recent ones. Wolverine has a valid point because if god forbid you do not pass you will have the chance to reapply and you won't miss the match season.

With regards to CK or CS the choice is yours, CK is not a prerequisite for CS and you can do CS without it; I did so myself however you will feel more comfortable if you have already been through CK material.

Exam dates are hard to find because examinees choose them several months in advance and most examinees have a deadline they want to meet so they search relentlessly for a date within a specific time frame. Some people tend to change their exam date quite often right before their exam date; 3-4 days. My study partner and I had our exam on the same day but when we went to the USA our exam was 2 days apart but we waited for an opportunity and he was able to switch before the exam.

Don't forget that ECFMG takes about 2-3 weeks to process your application.

Good luck

Thank you kindly. I finally applied, because I faced some problems with my application. I will try to get a date as soon as possible. Probably the nearest one will be in May. Who knows! Lets say that somebody fails in June. Is it possible to find another date until the match? When actually is the deadline to participate for the match with all the exams you need(step1,2ck and 2cs)on your belt.

You should aim to be ECFMG certified before the Match season begins; September 1st.
