  #5

it's early ??? I thought time was running out !!! Hope you guys are right

  #6

naw i looked on last years post one guy got two interviews in dec....

  #7

we have to come to terms with the fact that most of us are probably on waiting lists for these programs who consider us only after AMG's....so hopefully now is the time that some AMGs start cancelling some of their interviews and we will be there to scoop them up!

  #8

yes it is a bit early to give up hope. up till mid dec iv's were still being sent out. last year i got an iv call late december for ortho and i had 10days's notice. so i wil also wait till after thanksgiving before i start to call in. most programs are probably waiting for AMG'S to cancel so keep your fingers crossed.

Thank you for your interest in Vanderbilt General Surgery.

Our program director is in the process of reviewing the more than 1,000 applications we received this season.

We are hoping to have contact with all candidates by the end of this month, either by regular mail or email.

Again, thank you for your interest and your patience.

well...maybe there is still hope...

Currently, your application is on hold. You have neither been invited to interview nor rejected. Sorry, I can’t give you more definitive answer.

e-mailing the programs can be good but also can be bad...

The Selection Committee of the Mount Sinai General Surgery Residency Training Program has reviewed your application and, unfortunately, is unable to offer you an invitation to interview at this time.

Please accept our best wishes for you in your medical career.

Cincinnati has already sent out rejections. If I were you, I would not hold my breath as the program is not at all FMG friendly - they do not say so but thats what they are. And I know, 'cos I've done research in the Dept of Surgery there and been rejected shaking head

While thats a positive attitude that needs to be commended, I still feel that we FMGs are somewhat deluded about our chances in General Surgery. Getting into an university based categorical program is quite impossible, in spite of the high board scores (everyone seems to be scoring 99s). And we seem to make it tougher on ourselves by applying to top-notch academic programs (B&W, MGH, Yale, Johns Hopkins). This is borne out by the fact that the rejections thread runs twice as long as the interview thread.

I learnt this lesson during the last match cycle and was careful to apply to more community based programs than university ones. But things don't seem to be much different there, either. In my case neither good scores, nor research, publications, USCE, and solid LoRs seem to be doing the trick. As Thanksgiving has come and gone without any offer in the preceding two weeks, I am resigned to the possibility that this may be the end of the season as far as I am concerned.

Thank you for considering Morehouse School of Medicine. All applications will be reviewed prior to or by Dec. 15. Applicants will receive electronic notification (invitation or decline to interview) from our program to the email address provided in ERAS. Due to the large volume of applicants (over 400) and limited positions (2 categorical & 3 non-designated prelim.), everyone will not be invited for an interview. We thank you for your interest in the Morehouse School of Medicine General Surgery Residency Program.
