Serum ferritin is an inflammatory marker. It could be elevated in many conditions (like C-Reactive protein).Even in Iron deficiency anemia, serum ferritin could be increased if other inflammatory comorbid conditions are present. Transferrin saturation is THE diagnostic/screening test for hemochromatosis. I think , more than 60% is suggestive.

I think transf saturation >45% is suggestive of hemochromatosis. ferritin can also be markedly elevated and suggestive but is not very specific (inflamm marker).

is there a such thing as a screening test for hemochromatosis? % saturation is the diagnostic test.
