Is it 60% Occlusion or 70% Occlusion of the Carotid artery?
Whats the most recent guideline? (Kaplan and UW conflict).
Thanks.

As far as I remember....It is recommended for patients with 60% occlusion+ recent Symptoms and in asymptomatic individuals > 70% occlusion.

Another important point I can't forget to add is : most common complication of carotid endarterectomy is myocardial infarction.

  #4

for symptomatic males 50-70% is an indication for it.
and >70% for asymptomatics.
while 50-70% in females is contraversial.

Indications for carotid endarterectomy:
According to UW, its >60% occlusion in either symptomatic or asymptomatic.
According to Kap: >70% AND symptomatic
(nothing is mentioned about asymptomatic)
