i keep reading the stats of how only like 30% of IMG's will match and for U.S citizen IMG 50% only match.

WHAT does this mean..... that the 50% who dont match r *&$* out of luck. ??

and need to find different careers?

I am american IMG ,graduated 2003. will try for 2008 and 2009 match for sure BUt this NO mOre than 5 years rule..... !@#$!@#!!

Is it possible for american IMG to NEVER MATCH? has anyone heard or know someone that this happened too. sounds hard to imagine espec since i have u.s loans to pay back BUT now im scared after reading another post on this topic.

The % of IMGs is closer to 50 but thats not including all the people that withdrew after getting a prematch.

  #3

ohhh ok, i forgot to take prematch into consideration for both IMG groups( citizen vs non) Thanks Jazmil.. i feel a little bit better now that i know the stats r betternod
But My question remains........ raised eyebrow

good Question dirtyplay28...( but hope you are playing ur CK fairlysticking out tongue)

I guess unmatched ppl can work on their CV & can be straong candidate in next match.. so chances of matching increases...

& being citizen surely does increase ur chances.. so dont worry much abt it right now.

I don't have a clue - I assumed that they became drug reps (just kidding, sorry, but it came out).

I really don't know. Teachers? Nurses? I don't have a clue. That's the side I don't see, because I work in a residency. No one has come to me and told me what they ended up doing with their lives.

Concentrate on the positive. We all have "what if's" in our lives. I never realized that the "what if I never have kids" was the way to tell me to work in a residency program.

lol, too funny

" I never realized that the "what if I never have kids" was the way to tell me to work in a residency program. "
Okay fair enough... But "what if i never get residency is the way of telling me to flip hamburgers is a slightly different story

wink

But Point taken. Its just hard to imagine that 50% of U.S IMG's after completing all their training and exams can actually end up NOT MATCHED . sounds like an pretty big # to me!raised eyebrow
but i guess thats the risk u take when u go through that back door.
higher the risk,,,higher the return. I will now stay positivenod

I know a doctor from Argentina that came to USA because of her husband's job, passed all the steps and did not get matched. That's the only one I know. She works as a Research Coordinator. It's a lot of paperwork, it makes less than 1/5 a PCP does, but her work hours are very good for a person with family.

I wouldn't say it's a huge advantage, but some programs only accept GC and citizens, therefore the number of possibilities is bigger for them.

Anything is possible folks. If you dont match, life isnt over. Use the time to get a job. There are plenty available. In the Northeast, medical assistant jobs are not hard to find. In places like Florida, you have plenty of opportunities as a clinical case manager or research coordinator. Other options include Pharmacy Technician or Lab Tech.

POINT BEING: Build your resume. Stay in the field. I know a guy that was hired 18 years after GRADUATION ! It can happen.

rx 135 b4 u get to exited smiling face what im saying is american IMG's will always have advantage bc #1 this is our home country and #2 we have taken out u.s government loans and the government likes it when we can pay them back hence we need employment.

When citizen IMG's start getting rejected than foreign docs who need visa ( will have even lower chance ) . This will mean theres more American graduates taking up the spots. NOT bc programs r choosing Foreign Docs over american IMG. So We ALL need to keep together and pray that theres suddenly not an overload of american graduates filling up all the positions. I just read another article of new american med school that just opened up!
