A researcher is performing an experiment in which she uses different chemical agents and enzymes to cleave an antibody. What will she obtain (i.e how many regions of Fab and Fc) if an antibody were cleaved with; a) papain b) pepsin plz, explain your answers, thanx

papain =2fab and 1 fc pepsin= 1fab...fcdigested in to multiple fragments..these depend on site of digestion

papain cleaves on the carboxy side of the disulphide bonds n thus 2 fab n 1 fc n other way for pepsin. :!:

thanx guys, but i will like to know which disulphide bond you are refering. there are numerous intrachain disulfide and 3 interchain disulfide bonds in an Ig molecule.

well thts the bond b/n variable parts of heavy chains near the hinge ,i cant recall wht they r specifically k/n as ,will have to chek out. :oops:
