We say that chronic high levels of hormone downregulate receptors , so why in hyperprolactinemia we have to give dopamine agonists to inhibit prolactin release?

while most hypothalamic/pituitary hormones have negative feedback action to their own pathway, prolactin is an exception to this which is under the regulation of dopamine and not prolactin itself.

knowing this, we give bromocriptine.. wink nodnod

Another hormone that can receive inhibition signal from hypothalamus is Growth hormone (GH) through Somatostatin secretion.

yup.. jean robert is rite.. thats why we give octreotide (somatostatin analog) for GH excess.. such as in acromegaly. pharm lesson included. nod

remember increase in prolactin increases the release of dopamine ("activating" properties exist, not just inhibiton the other way around)
