prueba wrote: hey.. yes it works with individual's preferences... so your next program on your list becomes your next first program....until you fit in a program that has ranked you high enough... even if 100 applicants rank the program first....but you ranked it 4...and you did not match on your first 3 options...if the program ranks you before those 100 appliicants you will match there....
Yeah, I think so too. e.g. Program A has 15 positions and ranks 50 applicants Appicant 1 ranks program A is first choice, program A ranks him at 10th. Appicant 2 ranks program A is first choice, program A ranks him at 16th. Appicant 3 ranks program A is 3rd choice, program A ranks him at 15th. RESULT Appicant 1 will be matched for sure Applicant 3 will be matched in program A if he could not match in other program. Applicant 2 will not be matched in program A if all positions are filled, but if there is at least one position left, he will match.

Completely agree with jazmil, prueba and robin. It's a fine combination between applicants preference and if he or she was ranked by the program and HOW HIGH he/she is ranked on the program ROL. Even if you are ranked by your number one choice but you are not ranked high enough you might not get it, and you might be taken out by another aplicant it doesn't matter if it was the number 10 choice of this person but he or she was ranked number one at this program. As prueba says if you could not be TENTATIVELY matched at your number one choice the program goes to your number 2 choice and starts the process all over again and takes this as YOUR NUMBER ONE CHOICE, yout past no. one is forgotten as it had never existed because it is no longer a possibility... your number 2 is now your no. 1!!! and if you were ranked super high on your number 2 you will remove from a tentative match another poor soul even if it was it's number one choice... it's sad to think about it... to get what you want you have to unconsiously remove others desires away! but that's how it works.... even if it was your last program ranked you will match there if you were ranked very high by this program and you will remove someone that had this program as their number one but was not ranked high enough by the program!! And remember all ranks are TENTATIVE!! until the system runs out all applicants!! This means: WE SHOULD ALL BE DOWN ON OUR KNEES ON THOSE HOURS PRAYING THAT WE ARE HIGH ENOUGH AND THAT WE DON'T GET REMOVED FROM OUR NO. 1!!! so nothing to worry for you mph!! I only hope we don't rank the same programs because otherwise off GLO goes!!!

hey guys ..... am joining this discussion late and it seems that the issue has been resolved to everyone's heart's content ........... good discussion everyone ..... my 2 cents ....... as someone mentioned ....... the match algorithm is a dynamic process ... everyone is matched untill they are displaced ..... so you match according to your preference, which happens first ........ then, you are displaced according to the programs' rank-list ...... once you are displaced, you topple down to your second choice ...... and this continues .... if you topple down from your last position, you go unmatched ..... if you manage to stick-on somewhere then you match !! i think this info will be valuable to a lot of people ..... and this thread might get lost ..... is it possible to rename this thread as 'mechanism of match' .... or something like that ...... as long as hotpotato doent mind it ........ btw .... i was hoping that you (hotpotato) would post your credentials soon.
