someone help!

Harrison's says
"severe acidosis(pH<7.25) reduce the effect of catecholamine "

why??

Hi mate,

Remember receptors Alfa-1,2 and Beta-1,2 is proteins in structure and the acidosis denaturalise these proteins, so these receptors get malfunctional under catecholamine effect.

thanks vietnamease !

how about alkalosis?
does alkalosis also affect alpha and beta receptors?

Wow,

Your question is pretty good, sorry I don't know exactly. But my hypothesis is as follow: the most common denaturalisation is the reason of acidosis, overheat, radiation..but never heard of alkalosis. Perhap it doesn't effect on receptor of catecholamine.

Have a funny study.

hmm.. I see.

I don't know overheat and radiation cause the same effects (;

In case of ICU, low cardiac output syndrome with acute respiratory insufficiency cause hypotension and lactic acidosis.

we should use sodium bicarbonate to correct pH before give catecholamine.
