to shohreh.. I did NBME ofline also offline I think if you are abv 35/50 then you will be fine BUt always try to get better score.. I am not sure how much did it help in real exam.. but do read the common topics which you are getting wrong. GOODLUCk you have time around 200 days use it wisely in your weka area..

someone asked me what to revise in last month I will write what I did during this period I revised FA + Kaplan notes again & again.. depending on my weak areas suggested by my UW scores.. I tried to work on subjct wise plus system wise.. during this period my main emphasis on revising ratherr than doing Questions.. Now in final score report I did notice the improvement in those areas in last month I did all NBME offline + kaplan simulated 1 week b4 exam first 15 days of my last mnth I read RR + physio+ FA pharma, Neuroanat, statisticsselctive anat. in last 15 days I mostly did Biochem, genetics, mol bio, Micro, FA .. hope it helps

Thanks farayam & amritt Hi medhavi & doc499 sorry for late reply. I graduated last year. read robbins half or so in my 2nd year. it helps form basics for sure, as while leavingmy medical school I had some remnants of all the books I read during my course. It really does help. Some ppl choose to do big books. like I know few who just relied on robbins for pathology so I wud suggest you can choose that too. but as a kaplan lecture notes for step 1 I think it covers more than 80 % of Questions from real exam if you add UW with this IT covers almost all of it. regarding which books should you follow, think what you are comfortable in. do you think you are better with your own text books rather than reading whole new set of books you can do that too.. In that case i will suggest add UW+FA+Kaplan medessentials with it. & if you know concepts from your text books then you are all set for the exam. giving exam at 6th sem or interniship it shud depend entirely on you & your school. You have too see when are you comfortable studying .. but I will say if you want to get done with this exam in 3-4 month like me then you shud have time just to concentrate on step 1 or you can plan for long term study plan which suits you. Thanks doc499 as I said aboveI am an average IMG ( I can assure you that) but hard work really pays off. In my case as I recently gave CK & that really helps & rest its test taking skills for MCQs GL

to make it short medhavi Kaplan notes+FA+RR(you can replace this one by robbins path) +UW was formula of success .. I just wish I had any formula for step 3 too! lol GL

ohhhh dear.. you are so sweet to say & do sometning like that. Thanks is all I can say I am honoured But believe me I am not anywhere closer to perfection tehre were many moments many days I was Dumb & Numb with these steps & studies. but the lesson I learnt is there will be some ( or more than some ) days whemn you just cant study You want to run from books .. take a break & remember these moments are not going to stop you to get your goal. when really not able to study DO TAKE BREAK.. & work harder aafter that. Its all hard work no intelligence required for step 1.. just try your best to be motivated thruout the journey & give your best shot.. got to go now to step 3 GL to all

Hi Kity, I really am inspired with your ability to get 99 WITH JUST 3 MONTHS STUDY. That is really amazing. Congratulations. I had a few questions for you if you don't mind. I was wondering if you have to choose between UW and Kaplan Q bank ,which one should I do? Did you do both? Is it necessary to do both or just one of them is enough? Is it a good idea to take the qbank earlier on in the prep or later?Especially since q banks like UW has tough questions, it might make you nervous if done before reading everything once. What do you think? But doing earlier has advantage that you have more time to read the explanations etc. What do you recommend? Thanks a lot for your time and patience. Enjoy your special score.

hi catz.2006 Thanks. I think regarding short prep my CK knowledge did help. I think that was the reason I could make it , by gods grace I would prefer UW UW UW over any Qbank. I did som kap Qbank , but I guess it was not helpful for me.nothing new to learn from there. UW alone is sufficient with kapllecture note. regarding timing of doing Q bank I think doing it in midle of your prep is better. you get better orientation of real thing & you learn where to concentrate more. as for me I subscribed UW after 2nd read i guess. Even if scores not good it really directs you to USMLE ways of Questions. & after UW is done you still have time to work on subjects. I think one should have atleast one month after UW to revise again & revise UW again. reading Explanations is tirirng but its all worth at the end hope it helps. GL

Hello Kity, Thanks for your prompt response. I have to take the exam with 4-5 months prep. I haven't taken the CK so I may not have that help. I am quite nervous seeing that all people with high scores did studying for a long time. I don't have much time so I am a little confused about how to manage my time. I would really appreciate your help and guidance with this. Thanks a lot. -When you say middle of the prep, did you mean around the time I finish say 2-3 subjects once? I have time to do everything maybe twice only counting that I need time to do questions also. - Goljan or kaplan for pathology? Since kaplan book is smaller than Goljan ,it might take lesser time. What are your thoughts on this? -Do you think not doing kaplan q bank at all is ok? -Do you think you felt that kaplan notes + UW is enough for you since you had a lot of ck knowledge? Would you recommend the same to others like me? -Is it important to read all the explanations or just reading the wrong and confusing ones is good enough?Again I am asking this to get some strategy to save time. -Can I skip reading FA? Thanks a bunch in advance for all the help.I am sorry for the long list of questions.I would really appreciate your advise.

Hi shwe I did make notes but notes were so scary & so much. but since I had 2 mnths subscription. I revised explanations once again. first tried to do all explanation but after sometime. revised explanations of marked & wrong answers I also highlighted explantions first time .. so it makes revision from old blocks easier. You are welocme supra.. to catz When you say middle of the prep, did you mean around the time I finish say 2-3 subjects once -yes I mean exactly this Goljan or kaplan for pathology? - I did goljan rapid review + uw only no kaplan here as it doesnt cover everything although it covers many hiogh yeilds but not all. Do you think not doing kaplan q bank at all is ok? - I did some of it but thought it was waste of time as there was not much thinking involved in solving kap Qbank. It tests your memoruization pointwise not concepts. & UW makes you think while solving Qs like real exam Do you think you felt that kaplan notes + UW is enough for you since you had a lot of ck knowledge - I think this is enough as CK ONLY HELPS IN PATHOLOGY. so pathology Questions asking Diagnosis seemed easier for me. CK knowledge only helps you here. - & being done with CK I knew in my heart this exam was not going to be very very scary finally so it relieved my anxiety of real exam. these are only two point where CK helps. & yes I UW+ kap lecture notes + FA has worked for me in every exam.. CK or step 1 or CS or & now step 3 too..
Is it important to read all the explanations or just reading the wrong and confusing ones is good enough - it depends how much inof you still have & your intelligence. I read all of them. -Can I skip reading FA yes you can, if you know Kap lecture notes really well.. FA is good for fast revision in short time GL.
