St. Joseph's General Surgery Residency program (Phoenix, Az) received accreditation from the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) on October 25, 2007.
Beginning in July of 2008, the hospital will house nine general surgery residents and will build the program up to a total of 23 residents. Dr. Scott Petersen is the program director for the General Surgery Program. The 2008-2009 year will have 3 PGY-1 categorical positions and 6 preliminary positions available.
