to those who have passed.... what do u think . Is just doing (mastering) Usmleworld enough to pass step 2. I truly believe it was enough for step 1 (im talking ,i read each question and explainations like 5 times! Opinions My future colleagues..... smiling face

someone wise told me... "its not how long u study for.... But the INTENSITy you study it! "

I agree with both points.

  #4

Yes, I agree. I would luv to do the 'proper, ideal videos, books, questions routine and would prob score higher BUT..... when time is issue (I have 2 months off (leave from work and thats it) i must be selective, study smart. sooo I will live eat and breath these questions, unlesssssss you guys tell me otherwise. thanks to u all who r sharing ur opinions. its greatly appreciated smiling face

I think u need to do some books too buddy. Goin through a book is a totally different 'flow experience' which never quite there with doin only Q & As.
As a general rule i'd say if u want ur knowledge to last and if u want to develop well grounded concepts and retain the ability to think laterally when the oppurtunity presents itself u gotta go through some good books.
BUT if u'r short on time and really need to get deep into question patterns and develop a quick ability to recognise them then u can probably cut out the book read part; that dont mean i suggest it to everyone though!
A combined prep would bedeal. It gets u ready for just bout anythin u can come across!

genbot, point taken! i did do that the first 3 months of my step 1 study(read just kaplan) but for some reason i only remember the last 3 months b4 the exam where i just did usmleworld. i guess i dont give the books enough credit! but maybee subconciously it did help on exam day. thats what im trying to figure out........ thanks!

  #7

ANYONE ELSE....no more opinionssad

  #8

bro that's exactly what i'm doing. I'm going through UW with a fine tooth comb, and supplementing it with FA, Step up and secrets. I study 12-16 hours per day, evvery day.

I did it for step I, and I did pretty well. I don't have the time, or patience like some of these guys to study for 6-7 months just for one exam.

hey doc, i am a sista not bro smiling face yeah, same here . nopatients 4 reading kaplan books especially 3 times! why not get right to the source! the exam is questions not an essay! and when u do world ,u r reading!....have u seen the length of some of the explainations . !
Soo doc, I like our strategy. I can do questions and really focus for like 10 hours a day, but reading kaplan i fall asleep in 1 hr!

Sooo I will prove my theory...i will master usmleworld.... supplement (read F.A or step up really quick last week before exam. and show everyone how usmleworld is da %$#@!

there is a set of notes I'm using as well, that I got off the forums. I think someone went through UW, and typed out the explanations, and then put them in alphabetical order. It came out to like 180 pages. There were a lot of grammatical/spelling errors, no sentences. It made it slightly hard to read. So now as I'm going through and reading those, I'm correcting it. I'll post it up on this board once I'm done.

I think the strategy is flawed.
While fact based learning holds u in good stead for Step 1, u need a lot more than that to do well at Step 2.
The two steps are basically two different types of exams.
Step 1 tests u heavily on factual knowledge and the questions are pretty concise and straightforward. You are not given a lot of misleading clues. Most of the times u either know the answer or u dont.
Step 2 on the other hand in addition to testing ur factual knowledge also concentrates on ur ability to pick out important stuff strewn within a lot of useless junk that makes up most of its huge questions. It demands a lot of intuitive understanding of a lot disease processes and constantly asks u to do a lot of lateral thinking. Infact most questions have at least 3 questions within them. Only when u resolve the apparent vaguesness of the questions can u move forward and use ur factual knowledge to good effect.

Using only Uworld for preparing for step 2 is fraught with danger. Though it may be a great resource of factual information, it does not help a great deal with resolving complex clinical situations presented in Step 2.

I hope this helps u to sort out some of ur problems...

If you have the lectures in the .asf file format you can listen to them in faster play, up to 2X faster. That's what I'm doing because they are soo long and boring, but you can save 1/2 the time.
Good Luck!

  #18

hgheith, yes i must do that asap! aggg! gyno guy is the worst!
everyone keeps saying to do this. but i dont see how?

I put dvd in and windows media player just starts playing. i have mac and windows computer . i need stepby step ' convert files for dummies' instructions. hgheith help. S.O.S .u know how boring these r! I will make a post.... thanks!

  #19

Dirtyplay28, I actually bought these off ebay, I had the old ones on about 14 dvd's but I needed this file format which put all the lectures on only 2 dvd's for only $15.
If you have the condensed version, you can open the equalizer in windows media player and find the speed control, that should work.
but converting files I couldn't help, I wouldn't know where to begin, sorry!
Good luck!

  #20

Thanku, !! yes, i have the 2dvds. Equalizer, ahhh .i think i tried everything but that! thanks ,i think u already know how much time and misery u just saved me smiling face
