Epinephrine given alone to a pt causes increased HR and Bronchodialation. Drug X is given and nothing happens. Drug X is given with Epinephrine and there is no response from Heart but slight decrease in broncho dialation compared with epinephrine alone. What is drug X?

a. propranolol
b. Nadolol
c. metaprolol
d. isoproteranol

why will is hinder the beta two rec???

good q....any b1 selctive is not 100%...it is always beta1 more affinity than beta2...so there can be slight decrease in bronchodilation

bec propranolol is probably non-selective,and may cause much less bronchodilatation--here it says,slight decrease in dilatation.

Anne !! doesnt nonselective means, generalized action , i mean both beta1 and beta 2 actions ? so really, y not propranolol??

Metaprolol....
The selective B1-blockers are BEAM....Betaxalol..Esmolol..Atenolol...Metaprolol.....all the rest are non selective and block both B1 and B2 receptors....
So if the drug X was Propanolol...there would be no response from the heart(B1) and there would have been no bronchodilation(B2) as propano. would block epi's effects there as well

i forgot one drug in the B1 selective blockers ...Acebutol...
so its BEAAM....

....ur welcome asmi.... Nadolol,timolol are non selective B blockers.......

it is physiological antogonism, but Propronolol appears to be the answer, i am not conviced. are you sure.
