Do you require a year of internal med prior to appplying for an EM residency? Is this a prelim year? or can you switch to EM after completing your PGY1 of your int med residency? I have done 2 years of EM in the UK but have applied for internal med as I realise doing EM in decent programme is difficult for imgs. Please advise

Thanks for reply, but 1) What are the chances of swithching from after a year of an internal med residency to an EM residency? 2) What are the main differences between normal and advanced EM pregrams. Is it pay post residency? research? status? or is it a large university hospital EM residency?

All I know is that most of the programs are categorical and there are few advanced progams. Both university and community hospitals may offer advanced programs. Also there is three year and four year categorical programs that are different from each other in terms of training. Also there is some internal medicine/ Em programs that are five years.
