Well ........If the question specifically states within the thyrotrophs or pituitary gland who regulates RSH....ans=T3.....otherwise it is crculating T4 that negatively regulates TSH. remember that the T4 is converted to T3 within pituitary before exerting an inhibitory control at this level.

There is this question in UW. Description of a hyperthyroidism patient, blah blah, then asks: what is the most likely cause of low blood TSH level? Answer is free T3, instead of free T4. I would assume the question is asking circulation thyroid hormone.
