I guess that its always going to depend on your situation- If you have friends/relatives in the US,have no pressing reasons to be in the UK in December, it might make sense to stay in the US- from what I hear, programs might call candidates also later in Dec/Jan esp if other candidates who have taken prematch/ have too many IVs decide to cancel.
I guess its impossible to answer if you will get other calls also because this varies depending on the programs you are waiting to hear from- Some (?most IMG friendly ) places already have invited people & the only hope from these places is if you are on some kind of wait list and they call you if somebody cancels- As for the restof the programs, I have no idea as I am in the same boat. I am hoping that I will know from most programs by at least end of this month, so that I can plan accordingly. But from what the seniors say, 50+% of programs wont say anything :-((
the bottom line is -its still too early to lose hope and if you can afford to be in the US during Dec-Jan , it might be the best- you can also try calling programs late in the season -it might not be practical to do that from UK, when you cant get there if they say they have a spot this week.
Best of luck
