64 yr old had problem with back pain and while he was swimming he felt sudden weakness in his both legs and numbness from buttocks to toe..Rectal tone absent..and no sensation in perineal area. no history of trauma, no loss of conciousness, no dysarthria..Foley catheter was placed and 800 cc of urine is put out.whts the next best step of management??

STEROIDS
MRI
SURGERY
NSAIDS/Physiotherapy
Bed rest
CT head

cauda equina syndrome...MRI...usually steroid is not helful in root compression as in this case.....however in cord compression steroid should be the answer.....so MRIIIIIIIIIIIIII here

Surgery .Cauda equina is a surgical emergency so surg is the next tx

Hey..I have a question...How to differentiate between cord compression and cauda equina syndrome? Will both the conditions present similarly and the ONLY difference is ABSENT RECTAL TONE?

cord compression will have upper motor neuron signs below the level of lesion...root compression will have only lower motor neuron signs

guys best next step should be surgery
