Hi fizzychi, Congrats for a great score and for sharing your experience. I had a similar mark in step 1 but aiming higher this time. So far I am almost done with the first reading of Kaplan notes except pediatrics and some IM chapters(second reading) and UW(Used it as a learning tool after each subject, scoring 60 to 70%) but I don't have the kaplan videos so here is my first question: Do you think that I am missing vital info because of lack of the videos?. I am studying FA 2007 along with the Kaplan notes instead. The second question is regarding the labs: which one did you learn it by heart? UW or kaplan ones. Finally I am planning to do Kaplan Qbank in my last two months and NBMEs, of course...going slow because full time job...but not an excuse to aim high. Thanks for your time and Have a great time in my beloved Southamerica.

Hi Ivonne How did you feel about your step 1 score?? If you know you can do better, than congrats for aiming higher! If you aim for 99, then at the very least you will get 95, I was aiming for 95 in step 1, and I ended up with 92 anyway, I think the lectures are important because it actually did provide me with about 10% extra information. Some info were more scattered than others, and eventually everything was there....but sometimes lecturers gave good tips on how to answer questions that were not on the notes. In regards to the labs, I don;t quite remember, but im prety sure I had the Kaplan Qbook labs posted on my wall. There weren't too much difference anyway, the only I rememebered was some discrepancy with APTT time. Qbank in the last two month is fine I think, I did Qbank in the last 4 weeks! I felt it was easy, but still learnt some good management in Qbank, you should definately do NBME in the last months of your exams, theres no predictive value if you did it too early anyway! Sounds like you are well planned good luck!!! Try to get the videos, but don't worry if you can't. I didn't read FA, but I thought it was quite alot of information so I'm sure anything you're missing from the videos will be filled in by FA and also doing UW. cheeers!

Dr Ruman, yes they do provide labs for 1st and 2nd step. MEmorising it did help SOOOO much because I was able to scan the question alot faster. It is purely if you wish to do your questions faster, I had around 12 min left for each block of 46 questions (allowed time was 60 mins). During the last 12 mins, I managed to do all the ticked questions and browse through all my answers (i always found 1 or 2 mistakes, so this was invaluable). In terms of study time frame, I started studying for Step 2 around May-June, only like 1 or 2 lectures per day, then from July to Beginning October, I really went hard and studied like 10 hours a day, I feel you probably need at least 1 months of getting into the groove of step 2, listen to the lectures slowely because its SO much information. I would recommend doing UWORLD after your first read/video, but infact i also knew people who said Uworld was good for starters as well. It's up to you, if you are a doctor already then maybe Uworld is easier for u than it was for me Good luck with your step 1 score!!! Vietnamese, I'm not really sure what the Washington manual is because we don't tend to use that text in Aus...but good luck anyway for your step 2

Hey Guys!! The DVDs were sooo hard not to fall asleep!!! So I listened and "tried" to follow the book, but that failed miserably because seriously you can only do one thing at a time!! Anyway, i ended up listening first, then reading straight after (so I could tell what was new and what was already in the book)....then I listened again, and typed as I listened (stuff that were not in the book). It was awsome that way....you sholud really try to do that! GL you'all!

hmn..I think I must have done about 2 months of listening DVD and reading the books....then I stopped listening to the DVDs and just concentrated on my books and UWORLD for the last 4 weeks....ofcourse I would go back to the DVD if I come across concepts I wasn't sure about, especially internal cardiology...which I thought was very hard.

However, you definitely need to start UWORLD at LEAST 8 weeks before your exam, preferably 10-12 weeks before hand to really get the best use! So do it whilst you are doing the videos

Hey, I'm definite that they give IMG for observership, whilst I'm here I have met some really nice doctors from south america doing OBGYN for observership, they do very littel and don't get treated too great, its really just a resume thing I think. I only used Kaplan videos and notes, Crush, Qbank and UWORLD to get 99....Uworld is the one and only MUST resource, Kaplan Videos and notes are also essential! THX Falcon, GL with your steps...!!!! its NOT TOO BAD! I miss Australian weather...but I love the NYC energy!
