Capillary thrombi result from sickle cells blocking small vessels and may cause
i. Vaso-occlusive (painful) crisis
ii. Hand-foot syndrome (swelling) in children
iii. Autosplenectomy, which is seen in older children and adults . Howell-Jolly bodies will appear in peripheral blood after autosplenectomy
. Results in increased incidence of infections (encapsulated organismssmiling facesmiling face

A. describes gamna gandy bodies seen in congestive splenomegaly as in cirrhosis,

(though kinda similar looking lesions appear in sickle cell anemia too, not very sure however.)

But very sure about cirrhosis grin

excellent, sfk! A it is. and you're right about the gamna-gandy bodies.

and yes, sickle cell anemia was the VERY tempting distractor. let's fall for it here, and not on the exam!

Can u post the explanation to this question cos as far i have looked Gamma Gandy Bodies R PRESENT IN BOTH THE SCENARIOS. so i m kinda confused so how to differentiate.

So, I would be guessing right ? Tough Q really, Paheli could you post an explanation, please? I choose it mainly bc of thickened capsule, witch I thought could be with rest of the picture in congestive splenomegaly.
