From my understanding, the MSPE is important for US grads, but barely matters for Foreign grads...most international colleges hardly understand what an MSPE is and i'm sure a program won't judge you on your MSPE if you are a a foreign grad...

agreed... I highly suspect if MSPE mean a sqat for IMGs.

Even worse for old IMGs. I mean, after15 years of graduation, who cares if I was the best student "in my days"?

Is there a coincindence that I received my first sign from programs- rejection, of course- after November 1, the date when MSPE is finally accessible?

I applied mid-September only with Step 1, in October 10 I added CS and I am still waiting for Step 2. If programs wanted to reject me they would have done it weeks ago, I think, especially since I graduated in 1991 and they would have seen this in my general application.

The irony is MSPE is really a good one, but who cares after so many years. Of course I practiced and work in all this time, but again, who cares.

cadp, the reason they send out rejections on nov 1st is because Nov 1st is the deadline for applications for many programs so they wait until all applicaions are in to send out rejection letters. Don't think the MSPE makes much difference at all, especially if you are IMG. It is a little more important for American grads, but in no way will it make or break an application for anyone.

Another thing is if you are an IMG, it's important to have both scores in when they read over the application. The MLE scores are much more important to rating international grads since they really don't have much more to judge you by. They allow IMG's to apply with one score, but they usually won't even give much of a look at the application. (I have relatives who are involved in the selection process for residencies, and this is what they told me.)

I agree with "usually won't have much more to judge you by", and that's one of the reasons american graduates are preferred, which is fair in my opinion. They are not supposed to know what's going on in Brazil, for example, and if my college is good or not when compared to the others in my country.
