Hi friends,i have heard that if you do electives in usa and get LOR then you do have more chances of getting residency,if its true i would like to ask few questions.

By what percentage are the chances increased for residency with USCE?
How much weightage do the LOR carry?
please share your thoughts..
either positve or negative reply no matter yet replys are appreciated.

Its a very big deal, will increase you chances by quite a large margin if you happened to secure good LORs from some wellknown physician.

Good LORs is as important if not more important than getting a 250+ in step1

Let me put it this way, if you applied for competitive residencies and you scored 260 for step1 but have mediocre LORs then u wont get as many interviews as – if you scored averagely, say 200, and got awesome LORs from politically connected people saying things like “if you didn’t hire this person you must be an idiot”, guess how many interviews you will get then?

Behold, im speaking on the IMG’s perspective because coming from abroad LOR is so very important. Why? Because a PD sees from your step1 that you might be good on paper, but how do they know that this random person from a country they might not even have heard of is reliable or at least not dangerous to his patients? Step1 means little to none in regards to how good a physician you will become.
