12 year old male pt, with LOC during physical activity. Regains consciousness w/out any post confusion. No previous episodes. PMH includes impaired hearing since birth, and an episode of pneumonia 2 yrs ago. Family hx includes sudden cardiac death in 13 yr old cousin. No abnormal findings on PE. BP 11/70, HR 70. The best treatment for this patient is?

A. Verapamil

B. Propanolol

C. Quinidine

D. Ethosuximide

E. Phenobarbitol

LOC, impaired hearing , a typical Long QT syndrome.
Beta blockers are the first choice in treating Long QT syndrome.

Nice grin , Long QT Sd, specifically : Jervell and Lang-Nielsen (JLN) syndrome (ie, familial occurrence with autosomal recessive inheritance, congenital deafness, QT prolongation, and ventricular arrhythmias). you guys are rocking...
